Just another heads up for BofA customers..........

Yesterday I received email ostensibly from my bank stating that online access to my accounts was blocked due to many fraudulent attempts to gain access. There was a link to a page which requested I verify much information (access numbers, passwords, account and routing numbers, etc.) to restore access to my accounts.

The link provided pointed to the following site: http://www.axelibre.org/accueil.php?var=17mars2001

This of course was not a valid BofA site athough an untrained eye would probably think it was a valid site. And of course my account access was available from the BofA site (secure) as per usual.

Be very careful as there appears to be those who are willing to take advantage in the guise of internet "security." My main question is how did my banking relationship/email address become available to these scammers?

It's an illusion. They have phishing sites for many banks, and E-mail the attempts to any E-mail address they can. Ocasionally, they send one to a customer who really has the account mentioned. I receive many from "my bank ", but many more from banks I have either never heard of, or never had an account with. They only need a tiny rate of success to make it worth the risk (which is small for them as they are usually based in some backwater with little in the way of effective enforcement).
