Hello.

I'm new to on-line casino gambling, and I've noticed that I can fund via Visa or Mastercard at various on-line casinos.

If I fund using one of these two cards, is it considered a purchase or a cash advance? Clearly I don't want to pay fees associated with a cash advance from a credit card.

I attempted to open a NeTeller account, but I couldn't because I live in Maryland. NeTeller stated that they are prohibited from opening accounts to residents of Maryland.

Any info would be appreciated. How do you all fund your casino accounts?

If you can't use neteller, which is best, you can use a debit card from a checking account (setup one that is INDEPENDENT of your main account though, just in case). I've used cards from Virtualbank and Netbank successfully.

Also, there's click2pay and payspark. Just look for the links in your cashier window of your favorite casino. I don't like/trust firepay.

Are you reffering to the Visa/Mastercard debit cards that can be used just like a credit card? I am in Canada and opened up a checking account in Buffalo, NY for that sole purpose, so that I could get a debit card by Visa that works like a credit card using it at the casinos. We don't have those here. I found out that most U.S. banks and especially Visa and Mastercard in the U.S. will not allow gaming transactions so it was useless. Are those two banks you listed using these Visa debit cards and are you able to use them on the casinos?

Yes on both counts B21J! The VirtualBank one is a Visa branded check card that works at most casinos I've tried it at just fine. Been using it for years in fact. I use it as a credit card (not debit) when charging at a casino. The same is true for the NetBank card, except it is Mastercard branded. And I've used both within the past month or so successfully at MG, Cryptologic, and I think RTG (not sure on that one) casinos.

So I guess I can just use my Credit Union's Visa-branded check card as a credit card (not debit), and funds would just come out of my checking account.

Does this sound right? I'm not sure why I'd need to open another checking account.

To ensure that unauthorized charges are not made to your primary account and you therefore lose all your money. Having a secondary account that you use solely for online gambling protects the money from your "real job."

Make it a savings account that a card is tied into. At most places, you'll be making interest on whatever's in the account.

Macgyver is right, you want to protect yourself from unauthorized charges, so please use a secondary account.

Many online banks, like the 2 I mentioned, as well as First Internet Bank of Indiana will pay interest on your checking accounts as well. They are at www.firstib.com. Never tried their card for gambling though as this is where I have my main account. Netbank has a unique facility allowing you to link your other bank accounts to it so you can view them all from one page, and then if you want, you can initiate transfers between them as well.

I'm not sure Ping, don't know what the rules are for non-US residents. I'd say to just try opening the account on the web page and see what happens, it should tell you if you can't do it for whatever reason.
