Well, it just so happens I am trying out all the different RTG games and played this on the weekend. I am thinking of reviewing all the individual games.
I was going back and forth between BJ and slots - replenishing my money with BJ, then playing it back down at slots etc. And yes, the diamond count did get saved when I left. It was there when I came back. What you win with 99 diamonds can vary enormously. Sometimes all the mines have substantial amounts, sometimes they are puny. There are always two mines that cave, and they are totally random. I think I hiot the 99 diamonds 5 times, twice I won next to nothing, once a medium amount and twice I did well. Your theory may work. You will get more chaces at good wins for less money that way. The game seems perfectly random, so you will still never know if and what you win.

The old adage probably holds true - "If the casino offers it, it probably isn't to the advantage of the players."
This diamond mine appears to be a variation of a loyalty program. Key issues here would the amount required to wager to earn a diamond, and the variance and probability in rewards from the 99 diamond level. Quote:

I've played this game alot and can tell you that if you don't play max bet for every spin, then the amounts in the mines will decrease dramatically. I tried doing max bet for everything but the last 5 or 10 diamonds and when I got there, they were much less than the usual denominations you'd see. It also seems that its an accumulation type of reward. The longer it takes to get to 99, the higher the amounts in the mines. I've had more than a few sessions when I hit a cave-in on my first mine, not sure if that affected the subsequent mine visit or not.

Hmmm. I must admit thats why, if i am going to do slots which is rare, i prefer the MG "Thunderstruck" model to the "bonus reveal" methos employed at RTG and Crypto. Far more fun watching them scatter rams run for 15 spins eh

In progressive slots or feature slots it makes little sense to play anything but max amounts.
Your wins are way reduced if you don't, and you won't ever get the jackpot either. They usually offer so many betting amounts that all you need to do is pick the slot that fits your budget - the one where you can always bet max. If you run low on money or something, just switch to a lower denomination slot and bet max there. Becoming fond of any particular slot and playing it with less than max makes no sense at all. There isn't much to know about how to play slots - this is pretty much it. In diamond mine I think the smallest denomination is one cent, and the max bet in that version is 45 cents. You can bet a lot higher also, there are various denominations. You need to have a decent bankroll in feature slots. You need to hit the feature as often as you can. The carry over of the diamonds in this slot is an unusual feature, and I think it may be possible to play it to an advantage doing what Simmo outlined.
