Is it legal to place bets in Sportbooks and Sportsrooms within the US?

It would fall into the same "illegal gray area" that playing in an online casino would fall into. I don't think the player would face any legal ramifications (unless you live in Washington St., if that's the case I'm not real sure), but the processors would get into legal trouble. The US gov't simply does not won't their citizens betting in any fashion online.

actually i think not to bet as a punter ,but yes to make book as a parlor of betting , how ever the only peeps i ever saw got into trouble were sports players like pete rose for example and theres a few others i cant remember
but i think its because there contracts a players [conflict of interest]

side note if i remember correctly in Vegas you can bet on all college games except for any instate Nevada games

It was my understanding that it the illegality came from the servers of the betting sites. Such as if they're based in the U.S. or not. I thought servers and sites based in the U.S. were more illegal and the government has ceased accounts from U.S. based servers. Though I am not sure.

Any other input on this?
