Question re. Bonus WR

I don't play with bonuses generally but sometimes when I am testing I inevitably do. The other day without really thinking to look at the bonus I whacked in £250 to test a new casino out. I was credited with a £200 bonus automatically.

I went onto support to ask some questions and in this instance asked them what the WR was. Turned out to be 40x D&B. I assumed that it was 40x on the "qualifying" part of the depost and bonus (ie: £200 + £200 x 40 = £16,000) but was told it was all of the deposit (£250 + £200 x 40 = £18,000).

Didn't matter as it turned out but this annoyed me. Why should a player get penalised for depositing £50 more with no extra benefit. I could have whacked in £500, still only received £200 and had to wager £500 + £200 x 40 (£28,000) before cashing out!

I tried showing the maths to the support guy but either they a) couldn't grasp it or b) had to stick to their rules, so I gave up in the end.

So my question: Is this normal? Or do most casinos only count the qualifying part of the deposit in the WR?

This is normal.

Frankly, I don't think they're smart enough to understand why this makes no sense. And they certainly aren't going to focus one iota of their brain cells on something that would benefit the player.

This is common.

What is WORSE though is when you inadvertently add money when you already have a balance in the account. This happened to be once when I had a nice balance already and got offered a free chip from a promo, took it and then BAM ---- realized what I had done and it was too late. Now I always make sure I have #1 never deposited more than is needed to collect the bonus and #2 never deposit until account is at absolute zero. Not even a few cents left in....

The money that previously cleared the wr - becomes subject to it all over again. "Contaminated" by accident.

That's why the best offer is xB, but not x(B+D). Wagering depends only on your bonus amount.

Why on Earth casino would offer you a free chip if you are already have nice balance? IMO it was done deliberately, to "trap" you and make you wager more.

Unless the T&C clearly state otherwise, assume that your whole deposit will be counted for the purpose of calculating the WR. Even if only the qualifying part counts, why risk more of your money? Intercasino allows (or at least it used to allow) you to withdraw the non-qualifying part of your deposit, but most casinos won't allow to withdraw anything until you meet the WR.

Thanks all. I was surprised to find this was normal. It seems a bit underhanded to me and a slight anomaly in that surely a casino wants a player to deposit more - but then they penalise them for doing so!

Anyway I made the WR (eventually!) with a very healthy profit and now have a 48hr reverse time which they refuse to negotiate on or flush from (grrr!). I now feel so negative towards them I have uninstalled and refuse to play on LOL.

I'm constantly surprised that so many casinos don't really care about the player in this day and age. I appreciate there is a need to balance financial considerations with customer service but the choice is such that I don't *need* to play any casino. They need to give me a reason to stay and play and that means they need to understand what I want better. It also means one less affiliate too.

Ah well. No bones broken I guess LOL.

It happens all the time. It's a "Daily VIP Bonus" that rewards play or deposit from the prior day. It isn't contingent on what you have in your account. But these don't expire, so I have now learned (as usual the "hard way") that you just hold these offers/bonus codes until balance has been cleared through hopefully a w/d versus a loss --- then you start over again.
