Microgaming Casinos - what is going on?

Cinema Casino have removed the tournaments from their system including multi player slots but their sister sites are keeping them

Ladbrokes still have no new games they haven't added any since December despite the signing of a new contract with Microgaming.

    What is going on here?

Maybe they want to prevent in playing with many aliases in their tournaments, I don't know I just guess. If I well remember they left tournaments in Crazy Vegas and Golden Riviera.

RE: Microgaming casinos - What's going on?

    Hi there,

Ladbrokes is not affiliated to our Casino group, so I can only speak on behalf of Cinema casino.
Currently, Vegas Partner Lounge has only two brands on which the Multi-player software is running. These brands are Crazy Vegas Casino and Golden Riviera Casino.
Players are welcome to download the software for either of these casinos, and log in with their Cinema account details to enjoy the functionality of the Multi-player software (tournaments, Multi-player slots etc.).

    Kind regards,

    Curt

This is the kind of confusion players could do without. Many players already struggle to keep up with the different ways the SAME software functions between brands, as well as where they already have accounts (and are thus not eligible for offers, many of which they receive by email by spammers that are deliberately designed to look like "personal invites from the casino itself".

Far easier to have a Cinema account work ONLY in Cinema casino, and have a separate account for Crazy Vegas for use in the tournaments.

This is a backward step fopr Microgaming, and is right back to how these multiplayer tournaments started out, only being offered on "flagship" casinos of operators. Since then, it seems that pretty much every MGS casino offered the tournaments, yet now it seems they are being pulled from many.

I note also that the rep has skirted around the actual question, and has NOT said anything about WHY Microgaming/VPL are doing this, thus opening the gates to speculation, including the possibilty that the reasons for this move are actually a secret not to be disclosed to players, as are many of the odd happenings through the years with MGS.

If this is a move designed to benefit players, for example by reducing the load on MPV servers to make tournament play faster, why not just say so. If players do NOT see any improvement in their experience, or even a worsening, they may decide to give up MPV altogether.

Maybe they want to prevent in playing with many aliases in their tournaments
Oddly enough, this is EXACTLY how MPV was initially implemented, with each player only being allowed ONE alias that had to be used at EVERY MGS casino, whoever operated it. It was Microgaming themselves that scrapped this rule, so it was a DELIBERATE decision on their part to allow players to have a different alias in different MGS accounts, allowing for multiple entry into single tournaments. Despite heavy criticism from players, MGS simply would not budge on this, and players can STILL have many entries into the same tournament by playing in different MPV enabled casinos.

Maybe VPL are fed up with this, and have "taken the law into their own hands" because MGS won't budge, and have ensured players are limited to two aliases within VPL casinos. This could have something to do with the "casino specials" they run with $30K prize pools that are "vulnerable" to players using a different alias in every VPL casino.

Other operators may follow, but their implementations may differ, and unlike VPL, it may not be possible to log into one of the MPV supporting skins with the account details of another.

Especially that removal of tournaments except stated above was connected in time with their last 10k "Freeroll". So my first thought was this was the reason.

I logged into NedPlay yesterday (which is one of the 32Red group) and they didn't have tourneys anymore either.

This is starting to get interesting. It looks like this is NOT something that is being decided at operator level, but something that has been arranged between Microgaming and it's licenses. Yet ANOTHER "secret change" that players discover, and operators pretend to have "not head of anything planned" and just trot out the PR bullshit of "players can log into ....... ....... and still enjoy the multiplayer tournanemts".

It seems the decision made by Microgaming to abolish the global "one alias per player" in favour of a local "one alias per casino account" has become a problem, but they don't want to ADMIT to having "egg on their faces". Just like the SECRET "upgrade" that saw "expert mode" mysteriously vanish from VP games earlier in the month, MGS seem to think we are daft enough to fall for it AGAIN.

I expect tournaments will disappear from a number of lobbies, but what about players who are CURRENTLY PLAYING a tournament over a period of time, and who find that when they want to have some more continues to climb the scoreboard the whole thing has VANISHED, along with all the money they have paid so far. I can see some overworked CS staff having to deal with irate players who have been "ambushed" by this and want a solution RIGHT NOW because by the time "the tech team look into it" the tournament will be over and they will have lost the chance to finish play on what they have already started paying for.

So for MGS reps, Exactly which lobbies are SAFE to use to enter any new tournaments without the risk that the roll out of this change will see them disappear mid way through. The wise course of action would be to stay clear of ALL MPV until the dust has settled and it becomes clear which casinos will continue offering MPV.

This had better IMPROVE the levels of performance, and I am EXPECTING that when this is over the painful lag problems will have been solved by severely reducing the load on the MPV servers. If this does NOT happen, I cannot see how this change is intended to benefit players.

We have yet to hear how the removal of "expert mode" from VP is intended to "enhance the player experience" - would at least the VPL rep care to explain?

    RE:

    Hi all,

This was a business decision taken by Casino Management and not Microgaming. There has been a very low demand for Multi-player games on the decommissioned brands, therefore we decided to support this only on Golden Riviera Casino
and Crazy Vegas Casino, and for the players that still wanted to make use of the Multi-player Games, we enabled the “cross play” functionality to service them there, by simply downloading the new client, and logging in with their existing
user names and passwords, that they did not have to create/sign-up new accounts.

    Regards,

    Curt

This comes as no surprise given all the problems with server lag, disconnects, etc. Players have lost interest in MPV. I can't see why it matters which skin/brand an individual player chooses to use to access MPV, as MPV is network wide, so it doesn't matter whether, say, 1000 participants play through 50 skins or 10, the underlying MPV game still has 1000 players participating.

Having to download a new client means up to 10Gigabytes of download being eaten up, and players on limited allowances may not bother. There have been a number of complaints where an MGS update cycle has "blown my cap" on a broadband tariff, leaving them stuck with a throttled connection or penalty charges for the rest of the month.

This could even lead to players moving away from a "decommissioned" VPL brand to a skin already on their PC from another operator that still has MPV.

If Microgaming listened to the main complaints about MPV and fixed them, there would be an increase in interest. Many other software providers brought out multi-player tournaments, and many players feel these later entrants are superior to what MGS offers.

The two main complaints about MPV are:-

    1) Disconnects which cause the player to lose time trying to reconnect that should be spent playing.
    2) very slow gameplay compared to the normal lobby games, sometimes made worse by 1) above, and players never get to play through anything like the number of coins they have bought in continues. Worse still, unused coins count for nothing at the end, and are simply wasted.

A third issue is that there is simply no time to engage in any kind of tactical play, it is a matter of spinning away as fast as possible on max bet.
