What are your thought that if you request a ban from a casino and then a few months later sign up for a new account but they re-instate your old account ?

Should they beheld accountable in some way ?

hi
they should never of reopened the account period ! & should reimburse those funds played aswell but not winnings just deposits , but they get around that someway.

ive had my own problems with this & never got all my deposits back to which i feel i should of had back regardless to what i was told , but they seem to get away with it because its such a grey area of online gambling.

fair enough - i know with land based casinos in Asia and the Pacific, if you request a ban at a gaming venue, they are obligated to give you the boot when they discover your presence.

I think if you request a ban SPECIFICALLY because of GAMBLING PROBLEMS you should never be able to access that casino again. In any other case i understand if they reinstate your account upon request.

It's funny as the casino I think changed their policy in bans. When I first asked for a ban, and then tried to lift it they told me to think about it for three days before re-instating. After a while, I asked for another ban. This time around, when I signed up under a different account, they automatically re-instated my previous account without question.

sounds like a cooling period which is good at least there taking steps more than most of them do.

Why are you opening a new account instead of waiting for the cool-off period to lift the ban on the original account? Or am I not understanding the timeline?

the scenario is probably over a period of 7 months. After i first signed up, after a playing for a while, I asked for a ban which was granted, then about 1 month later I asked to be re-instated and that's when the cooling off period was offered (3 days to think about whether I wanted to lift the ban). After that, i continued to play, lost $$$ again and asked to be banned again, which was granted. A few months later I signed up under a new account as my old account was disabled, deposited $$ and then received an email stating that my account had automatically switched to my old account. No questions asked about a cooling off period or whether I wanted a period to think about continuing.
Hope that clears the situation up.

This situation was looked into in some detail by the UK courts about three years ago when a guy took William Hill to court over a six figure loss on an account he had re activated after self excluding himself. Basically the judge ruled in favour of William Hill and the judge said that the fact the guy had self excluded was not of great importance to the case.

If you think it through it sort of makes sense. The guy could have opened an account at another bookmaker and lost £100K there. Or gone to a racetrack or a casino. If he wanted to gamble he would have found a way and really he might aswell lost his money at William Hill as anywhere else.

Bottom line is if you have self excluded, reversed it and lost money IMO you can't really rely on the fact you self excluded to bail you out. I mean if that was a get out of jail card available to us then we would all start doing it!!!

This may sound tough but IMO I don't think it will work trying the self exclusion argument.

If you are having bad times then I suggest you look at different avenues.

^^^ I agree.

Also when you think about it from their point of few. You could have someone ban themselves, then later return down the road to deposit and get the best of both worlds. If I lose money I can request to have my deposits returned because hey after all I'm addicted and they shouldn't have let me return (cool off period or not). If I win then I'll just keep my winnings and not say anything.

I guess they could just have a flat policy of not letting anyone ever return after banning themselves but that would then suck for those who have learned to control themselves and would like to make a small deposit every now and again.

edit: just realized I missed the middle part of his post that included what I just said. leaving this one up because damnit i took the time to write it.

Interesting - thanks. You wouldn't have the citation or a link to the actual decision would you ?

Yes and No, There has to be an onus on a player as well, it also depends on why you asked for the account to be closed in the first place.

When you say you signed up a new account is this because you wanted a way around the old one you had banned? You obviously had a reason for trying to open a new one?

Edit: you seemed to have answered this before I posted :/
