I rarely play Fruit Machines, don't have the patience for them. Yesterday I played "Winning Wheels" for an alternation.

After 30 or 40 spins ($10 bet) with almost zero wins I got the bonus round. It gave me straight the numbers 6,6,6 and 5, landing on the Jackpot x500. It credited $5000, followed by a "True Skill" repeater, which I lost.

10 Spins later, again bonusround, 6,6,6,5...Jackpot x500. "True Skill" repeater lost. Again, maybe 15 or 20 spins later, the same game again, x500, but got no "Repeater" offered.

Then two bonus rounds with a number of win-spins followed shortly after, both resulting in around $2.5k

After 30mins I had 20k in winnings. I played maybe 100 or 150 more spins and got only small wins, nothing big anymore.

my questions:
a) what if I would have left the slot after the first x500 round? I would be the idiot of the day...but you need to know that such streaks exist, which I found out only by random.
b) how you determine, that such a streak is over? Is 100 Spins with low wins enough to say "no more jackpots coming" ?

It didn't matter that you missed the true skill repeater. It intended to give you the jackpot + two repeats. Since you missed them, it simply found a different way to pay you the triple jackpot. Had you hit the skill chance for 15K straight away, you would not have been given the later jackpots.

The remaining 2.5K was all that remained in the pot, and you should consider the game empty, and withdraw your 20K

This was one of the rare "megastreaks" that come along on all the AWP games. They can also suck you dry with little return.

The record megastreak on a $10 bet is $70K, and was won from the "Game On" AWP.

In order to suck every scrap of value out, drop your stake to $1, and then 10c - you may get an extra few hundred from it.

thanks for the infos, vinylweatherman. I tried today with a further $1000 and the streak continued, just with a plenty of win-spin features and no jackpot. After my balance was up to $6k the slot went dry.

Such mega-streaks mean, that a not-knowing player misses out lots of potential wins.

Not exactly, the machine has a memory, and the rest of that streak would have still been there for the taking the next time you played, even if that was the following year.

The sign of such a megastreak is a jackpot feature coming "out of the blue", which is what happened in your case. It is more common for the machines to offer nothing at first, and then a little more each time you exit the feature taking less than the machine was willing to pay.

I have had many such megastreaks, and know all the signs, as well as knowing that there is often value left after such a streak that can be better extracted by dropping the stake. The game is REALLY dead when you get killed straight away in the feature from a 10c stake.

Seems you found that $5K was left in the pot, rather than just "a few hundred" - very nice
