Exclamation Microgaming and their bad coin/credit tricks

To convert money into credits, coins, chips or whatever is an old strategy used by casinos. The reason may be to confuse the player. Players will probably much easier be caught up in the game when betting with "money-replacements". Players can relate to loosing $200, but to loose 200 coins/credits will just not give the same feeling. Coins/credits etc will contribute to lose track of how much a player really has won or lost. Especially confusing is it when 5 coins is a dollar etc.

There are in my opinion, no good reasons why a casino/ casino provider should use this method when it comes to online gambling. But yes, they might use a "coin/credit-system" as an addition to a clear reference to how much "real" money being betted/won/lost etc (this together with the correct currency).

I think it is a shame that Microgaming is still using the old outdated "coin/credit"-trick. For example Playtech, Net Entertainment or 3Dice does not have this practice (as I have seen) .

I agree with you here Rainmaker.
They use terms like coins or credits.

I have been confused about this in the past, being told something like I need to wager 2000 credits or 2000 coins and thinking it was only $20 or $200, only later to discover that it was $2k.

Although, I don't think they do this deliberately.
It would be better if the software was standardised to whatever currency you are using.

I rarely make a deposit to microgaming casinos. But when I have, the coin/credit system has been the standard. I did not see any "change" switch to $.

There is, it can be located at options - display as coins or credits.
But this does not change the wins during free games which are always displayed in coins.

Ok. I see. Yes, I knew that you could change it to "credits". But you can not change it to see your currency and money. That is just what my thread was about. They use "credits" (or coins) as an psychological twist to distance the player from reality.

I added "credits" to my main post. I know it may be a bit confusing since I only talked about "coins". But this also applies for "credits".

By the way, that is also a strategy to confuse the player. Players will often win most money in free spin / bonus rounds or whatever. To show big winnings in coins will only mislead the player. Creates distance to the real amount.

For example, Playtech shows winnings in free spins as "$"..."Congratulations you have won $4543".

In a Microgaming casino, a $4543 win from free spins would have been "congratulations, you have won 334234255342323 coins "

I didn't know that either, thanks. I've never really like the idea of coins/credits, although I thought it was to do with multiple currencies.
