While I was probably lucky to notice the April 1 date first and, as it happened, wasn't fooled, I was fooled by articles on another website, Motley Fool, that makes investment recommendations, etc. They ran an article that Warren Buffet bought Krispy Kreme doughnuts, amongst 14 others, and I actually considered running out and buying the stock.
Made me wonder how liable a website operator might be for April Fool's Day articles that people may have relied upon to their detriment. Just a thought.
Anyone ever sue Orson Welles for his "War of the World's" Martian radio address years ago?
When the original "War of the Worlds" was broadcast, Americans had yet to be turned on by "easy money law suits". Back then it would have been laughed out of court.Originally Posted by Clayman
But If this would have been broadcast today, I'm sure there would have been many eager ambulance chasers lining up to represent all of the victims of a faked "alien war".
But this does pose an interesting situation: how liable are those who fool others on days like April Fools? This is one of the reasons I have a legal statement posted on this site that pretty much washes my hands of liability.

Just a story. Recently, my wife was at one of those parties where the husband thought it would be funny to pull one of those "winning ticket" lottery scams - I think it was a scratch-off saying you had won $10,000.00.Originally Posted by casinomeister

Guess they had a few "issues" to work out after that.
Not sure what the moral here is.
LMAO! That's hilarious. Not only did she not really win what she thought she won, but her husband now knows her true colors!
Have two people ever deserved each other more?
