Hi

I played an MG $10 torny at the weekend which had a $10 buy in and 100 continues at $5. I think the two players who ended up first and second used
up all the continues as the score difference between them was very close and neither played during the last couple of hours. I was in third place and did not have enough continues left to catch the top pair.
What I dont understand is why my remaining coin box was so much higher than the top two players boxes.
On a level playing field, the coin boxes should be within a few thousand of each other if all the continues are played as the total play time is the same
for all players.
I ended up with 13 continues left but the coin box way above the winners box.I had a below average feature rate so that did not contribute much to the box
I was running the torny on a bog standard PC but the reels seem to spin at the normal rate and there were no connection problems.

Can anyone advise what might cause this and is there anyway to increase the play speed (VWM ?)

It seems these two do NOT have the "bog standard" set up, but have tweaked their PCs for the MGS tournaments. This would NOT be necessary if MGS really DID let everybody have a "level playing field", and simply allowed players to purchase coins, with the ONLY time constraint being the start and end times of the tournament as a whole, forgetting about limiting each continue to it's own time limit.

The outlay for these players may not have been worth it, since this tournament had 100 continues at $5 each, an outlay of $500 ($510 including the buy in). Players doing this must CONSISTENTLY reap prize money in excess of their outlay, and this would make them "professional" MGS tournament players, and it would naturally follow that they would have a tuned PC set-up to give the best possible tournament performance.

I wonder how many of these tournaments suck people in thinking they can play it for 10 bucks not realizing that several people at least will fork over the 500 bucks to play all the buy ins?

Might as well call it a 500 dollar buy in just to keep up.

yea, but more people would keep sticking $10 in at a time during the heat of the moment when they're on a streak and their time runs out, as opposed to shelling out $500 in the beginning. It's a cash cow for the casino, they're not gonna change a thing....except maybe increase the # of rebuys/continues that you can have.

The prize money for the first 3 places were $1000,$750 and $500 so the top player made a profit of $490 - (prize - $10 buy in + 1000 continues @ $5)
and the 2nd spot made $240. I was in third and made a loss of $10
so it was probably worthwhile for the first 2 players.
VWM , how would you optomize a pc achieve a faster play cycle ?
I have a higher spec laptop which I can use next time.

It's quite hard. MGS actually use "crippleware" to prevent much in the way of optimisation. This was introduced shortly after the tournaments became "mainstream". Before the introduction of this "crippleware", it was possible to optimise the PC to an unlimited level, making it possible to play ALL the continues in the original Tomb Raider weekender in a SINGLE 10 minute session.

This "crippleware" does NOT create a level playing field, but rather gives some players with tuned PCs an even BIGGER advantage than before.

Some tips are to switch off all sounds, which speeds things up a little. Autoplay actually slows things down, so use manual & click as soon as the reels come to a stop.

Animations during free spins can steal a considerable amount of time, and they CANNOT be skipped as they can by clicking "spin" as in normal play.

It is possible that this pair have found a way to skip animations altogether, such that their free spins run just as fast as normal play. I have not found that one (yet;) ). I rarely play these tournaments BECAUSE of the "stupid" concept of 999 continues (or similar large number), and/or 999 rebuys.

It is now possible to enter the same tournament AGAIN with a different alias from a different MGS casino, and this is perfectly within the rules. It may be that a SINGLE player came both 1st & 2nd, making an even BIGGER profit.

Perhaps ONLY these dedicated players get through all 500 continues in such tournaments, so play EVERY tournament where 1st prize makes a profit over the cost of buying their way to the top, which IS the case in this tournament. Further, the player(s) may consider this profit GUARANTEED, rather than factoring in the chance that they are competing with other players who also use all 500 continues to get to the top.

Rather than losing, these players may be trousering quite a profit in the short term, and will continue to do so until enough players present a challenge to their domination that they start making regular losses.

You could well be right, the torny is run over the casino group and it seems strange that the top 2 scores were so close but neither moved in the final few hours
