Received a mail from Ladbrokes about gambling laws

Received a mail from Ladbrokes a week or two ago, saying that Norway is going to restrict gambling from the 1th June, and that creditcards from Norway will not be accepted for online gambling by Norwegian banks.

A bit strange because there have been no news about this lately in the newspapers in Norway. Some talk about it a couple of years ago were the goverment suggested doing the same as the U.S, but then it all went quiet.

So I didnt know that this law had been enforced.

Also in that mail there were listed a couple of options like netteller etc.

No other gambling sites have informed me about this.

Well I did some gambling on allslots and got lucky. I cashed out 600$ and 575$ yesterday to my creditcard, both times allslots flushed within minutes

Tomorrow is the 1. June.

Am I at risk that my cashouts gets blocked? The cashout request was 30. May, but I guess the transaction process takes a few days.

This move against any operator not in possession of a Norwegian licence has been in the works for years, and has generated some hectic litigation by foreign operators.

Although Norway is not a full member state of the EU, it is part of the European Economic Area, which is generally required to hew to the EU principles of free movement of goods and services to justify benefitting from the European market.

Back in February this year the Payments Act was finally passed by the Storting (parliament) and given royal assent, with the purely coincidental implementation date of June 1st.

The Act appears to draw heavily on the US equivalent (the UIGEA) insofar as it seeks to disrupt and halt financial transactons between Norwegian residents and 'unlicensed' (in Norway) online gambling sites.

If memory serves me, I think there are provisions against unlicensed operators advertising or promoting to Norwegian players too.

The Act also requires that financial companies processing transactions help enforce the law on pain of being classed as accessories to unlawful gambling if they fail to halt online transactions with companies that do not have a Norwegian licence.

Leading Nordic operators have opined that the Act is unlikely to have a significant impact on business, but there will I am sure be some background activity seeking Norwegian licenses, which may be hard to get as the government seeks to protect the commercial interests of its Norsk Tipping monopoly.

The only "thing" that has been done are that banks are NOT allowed to transfer money to Gambling registered credit-card operators. (Visa,MC)
