    RNG

Online casinos must create an artificial randomness only possible through a random number generator, a system for generating a totally random series of numbers. There's an algorithm or a formula that is programmed onto the RNG chip. This program in the Random Number Generator gives instructions to generate and select the numbers.

The numbers generated by the RNG should possess two very important properties. The first is that they should be unpredictable. The second is that they should not exhibit any bias. If the random numbers are generated in a cycle that repeats itself then predictability is introduced in the games.

I wonder if there are different types of RNG, each accurate and producing the numbers according its own algorithm? In other words, do online casinos have their own randomness?

RNG's fall into two very distinct catagories...

1.) True RNG's. Although there is a pseudo-RNG (pRNG) within the computer software, it is randomly re-seeded by a naturally occuring random event. The one of many (that I'm familiar) is to use a natural radioactive source and a Geiger-Counter. The decay of certain radioactive substances is spontaneous (as in spontaneous fission), and cannot be predicted. This provides a random method on top of a usually well-programmed pRNG.

2.) is the above 1.) without the naturally-occuring random event to insure true randomness. Some have very long repeat-cycles upto 10^15. But someone with the wherewithal could in theory deduce the start-time of the sequence, and solve (crack) the random generator.
