Angry Microgaming Update - Blows my ADSL Cap!

    Hi All,

    I've got a ADSL+2 connection. That give me a 20Mbit link and 12gig of download/upload a month. If that's exceeded I'm throttled back to a p#ssy 8Kb/sec until the next month billing commences. (that's 3 days time).

I've never exceeded this limit. At most I use 5gig but I average 3.5gig a month and have done so for the past 26 months.

With the new Microgaming updates this has totally blown my 12gig cap.

If I only used this connection for recreational use I'd be upset. However I use it for work.

As a result I'm unable to do any work for three (3) days because Microgaming are complete tossers. They obviously think everyone has unlimited bandwidth.

Instead of forcing games onto people & making them download the entire casino suite, why not give people the option of only downloading the games they want.

I also would have thought (to conserve resources) it would make good sense to use a centralised folder on ones PC to store common game files - those used by every Mcirogaming casino.

What's the point of download the same games from every MGS casino

    Granted each casino is branded.
But you can't expect me to believe that there are not common files shared by all MGS casinos that do not require branding on these files.

The other downside of this...My crappy 8Kb/sec throttled connection (thanks again Microgaming) takes 3 - 4 goes at loading the banking page because it keeps timing out due to my throttled connection.

    What a joke

    Cheers

Hmmm they must have did away with the common files. I know with the last version, all of the games for all casinos were in C:\documents and settings\username\application data\microgaming

    Gotta love this new downgrade.

One way around this problem albeit a lame solution, would be when you are nearing your monthly cap, simply play the flash casino version instead.

Another solution is to download casinos onto an external drive, or use a secondary device for gaming with an uncapped limit.

Here in the UK bandwith for non business users is not really an issue as the competition is so fierce now that more and more providers are offering better deals with a wide range of packages on offer.

In an ideal world MG should have a streamlined download version where the player can just download the games he requires. An MG Lite version would benefit many people here in the UK who are perhaps connected on a capped pay as you go dongle. With these the consumer has to make a compromise between a capped GB monthly limit against a time frame when the allowance has to be used up.

You mean you have a limit on how much bandwidth you use a month? It's a little confusing to me as I have cable and it's unlimited for one price. There's different prices for speed but no more than about 15.00 for super fast downloads.
    Waiting on something interesting

I got caught because I don't exceed my monthly cap. Hence I never check it. Reiterating I've never used more than 5gig ever...

I never expected that the new MGS updates would suck 8.5gig of bandwidth

Oh we have that in Australia too. However Telstra the main telco who also runs BigPond (internet services) owns all the telephone exchanges.

If you go with anyone else other than BigPond you run the risk of... Either not getting a connection at your local exchange or if your line speed is crap or any other issue it can take weeks to get it fixed.

However if your with BigPond you don't experience these hassles.

Microgaming used to offer a lite version when they had Thumper. However when Viper was rolled out the lite version was removed.

I think the lite version was offered because most people were using dial-up back then.

Anyway I've since contacted BigPond and they've given me another 1gig of bandwidth. Fortunately this billing cycle runs out Midnight 24'th Jan 2010.

You in the USA and everything is cheap ($ wise)

    I pay $89AUD ($80US) a month for 12gig bandwidth for a ADSL+2 with 20Mbit/512 (download/upload speeds).

Sure I can get it cheaper with more bandwidth...but as explained in my post to Mike,I run the risk of not getting service if I have problems a the telephone exchange. So I pay the premium price.

If you think that's expensive try the poor sods in South Africa. They pay far more and get 3 - 4gig bandwidth a month @ 2Mbit/128

    Cheers

The Swedes have it the best when it comes to broadband connections. I'm not sure if it's still true, but I know some years ago people could get 100mb connections for the equivalent of $100/month...and 10mb for super cheap. Keep in mind that back then, 1.5mb DSL for USA residents was still outrageously expensive, and even hard to come by in most places. The norm at that time for us was 768k.

For years I would have loved to live in OZ, but no way, now.

Here in Belarus I pay approx. $30/month for unlimited Internet connection with 512/512 speed, pretty expensive for this speed, don't you think so?
Those who use with download/upload limit, usually have better speed, but if they exceed the limit - the speed won't be lowered, they just should pay additional money for every megabyte downloaded or uploaded.
But 12 gig for updated Microgaming sucks anyway. Nocool.

At home we have 8MB download 512 upload and there is no cap. However BT can and do throttle down the speeds on the network if it gets too busy which is in the evenings.

At work I have a nice 10MB download and 1MB upload cable connection. This is uncapped and never ever gets throttled down. But costs more. But you get what you pay for

Going back to the original point of this thread. I agree that MGS should really consider the affects of their upgrades before implementing them enmasse.

They used to do this all the time with Ladbrokes Poker ( Ladbrokes was the first microgaming powered poker site and was stand alone to the prima network, which subsequently launched after Ladbrokes Poker ). It seemed they did for the first couple of years all their beta testing in a live environment...

Right now as for download speeds. We also have unlimited, but we pay $50/month for 12 Mbps download and 512 kbps upload. To get near what your getting but only in the unlimited version I have to pay around $95 to get that feature. So it'd be 20 MBps down and 1 Mbps up. I'd kill to get that connection rate, but I can barely get a site to utilize the full 12 Mbps I have now. So why bother.
As for the MGS update... I noticed on a few MGS that I still have access to took about 5 minutes to load lately vs the usual 30 seconds. So I wondered what was going on. Since I live here in the US I still don't see much in the way of game change, but I hope that'll come in time after the revised gaming laws get passed. So we hope.
