    Neteller Issue

Hi a freind of mine just found out quite a bit of money has been transferred to another account. All it shows is the email of the person who did this. The transfer was not authroised and .. well its basicially been stolen out of his account. Neteller are investigating it as of now. I know that the persons pc was firewalled to the hilt and the neteller login codes were not cached on the pc. But anyway the money has gone. Makes me really mad some assholes enjoy making a living like this

That aside my q is does anyone have any experience of how neteller will react with this kind of thing ? It wasent a purchase just a straight transfer to some russian sounding email account. Is there any cover for this kind of thing ? Any info would be appreciated. Either way im gonna cover their loss as they dont have alot of money and the funds were for their kids xmas prezzies. I hope the person who stole the money chokes on it and dies slow painful lonely death!!!!

Well I use neteller for a stack of things. Not just gambling. Just like a pre paid card. With my neteller mc i use it same as I do a debit card. 10001 other reasons that you can use neteller for apart from gaming

It's the new Net+ card. It comes under the Mastercard umbrella, so can be used as a "normal" Mastercard. There is also the Net+ virtual card, which gives you a new card number for every online transaction. This number is only good ONCE, and will NOT work again if the information is compromised.

The theft relates to the Neteller Peer to Peer facility, send money to another account holder merely by using an email address. There is clearly a loophole in this facility, as the PC was firewalled. Somehow, enough Neteller information was stolen to allow the thief to do this Peer to Peer transaction. Neteller will have to investigate, but will probably seek to claim the user allowed a security breach at their end, exposing their information to the thief.

This Peer to Peer facility was also exploited with Netspend recently, another pre-paid card. It may be that the thieves are targetting these for this kind of activity, and have found weaknesses in the underlying systems used to ensure such transfers are done with the authorisation of the sending account holder.

Neteller customers need to know what is happening, so they can protect their accounts against it.

Yes correct the netellery MC plastic works really well and in some cases has been cheaper for me to use than other plastic especially when booking airline tickets and such like. Neteller did call my freind last night, and of course the suspision fell directly on my friend until he explained he was calling the police in himself. They are going to investigate as this was a clear breech of secuirty. The Labtop used as I said had up to date fire wall and was actually always behind a very heavy secuirty system as it was part of a work network. He works within my company and secuirty is priority for us as we have a bank of external servers that continually need to be secure.

All passwords etc have been changed but the neteller account at the moment is suspended. Lets see what they say and as they are regulated by the FSA then maybe theirs some hope for him. We are also going through IP logs and running traces to see what footprint if any can be found but its difficult as we manage literally 1000s of ips. They have to get on top of this and it makes me uneasy to have any amount of funds hanging in their.

if the money was taken from any hackers, neteller should recognize it and reimburse your friend.
i seem to know that if fe i login to my neteller from my ip in my homecountry its always recorded and if you login the same account from another country it should get blocked automatically.

would be interesting why the security hasnt worked in this case.

the net cards also still have some issues. it happened to me 2 times already that i tried to withdraw on atm or purchase pos and the card was declined due to no coneection to the issuing bank. and this was not during scheduled maintance. i complained about it and just got a yay sorry we had some issues.

so always have another card with you otherwise it could get embaressing. netller should really improve on this so you can be sure the card will work 100%.

    cheers
