Unhappy MG "free" Tourneys, I am officially an idiot!!

Thought I would share my huge mistake that I made today. I played at one of the MG casinos last night, cleared my bonus requirements and got up to over $600. Played a bit this morning, down to $500 and thought, okay, I'm not going to play any more back! I will cash out when I come back home later today.

So I logged in early this evening to cashout and thought I would check to see if there were any free tourneys I could play at while I had the casno open. I saw there was a free blackjack one and have never played one of those before... mainly just play the Grand Slam ones, but sometimes one of the Avalon or Tomb Raider ones if I happen to be on line when they are on.

Since I had never played a blackjack one, I didn't know what was "normal" with them... didn't see a timer or anything. Anyways, I played away, thinking that blackjack sucks and I can never win at them... and this is why I never play it in real. I lost my chips pretty fast betting $85 or something a hand, not expecting to win... never win free tourneys!

I exited the tourney, only to see my cash balance was almost zero... holy crap... I just played away my $500 in no time flat!! You might imagine how sick I felt... I didn't even have fun! If I was blowing some $$ on video poker or slots, at least it would have been entertaining. I never find blackjack that entertaining.

So, lesson to you all who may not be aware of this... beware of "free tourneys"!!

I am hoping the casino will have mercy on me, but ultimately know it was my mistake. I am hoping, since I never play blackjack with cash that they will at least believe me. Okay... I am going to go some more now.

    MG

Hey Trade, I'm confused, the tourny wasn't free? You were using you own money without knowing it? Man if that is true, that sucks. I know when I play TombR toruneys, they are free, but some you can rebuy or something like that, I never do. Good Luck

I have played at a lot of the slot tourneys and the only way that I have spent my own money is on a rebuy.

Maybe someone can help with this. Is there a rep here for the casino? I would ask someone at the casino about it.

Not much help but what a bummer.

Well actually the blackjack tournaments also include a button to play real blackjack....

I'd guess that trade has mistakenly clicked the wrong button and was taken to play blackjack but it wasn't the tournament version as expected.

Were you the only one playing?

The MGS blackjack tournament games are similar in style to a poker table lay-out, except your playing on a blackjack table instead. Each player has a timer (like poker) and also bet choices (like poker)...If there was no one playing the game, then I'm afraid you clicked the wrong button.

    Cheers

    Dave

I just had looked at what "free" tourneys were available. I have a few differient MG casinos and each one offers a different array of free tourneys you can play at. Blackjack was one of them. I now realize that the "free" must be the entry price. I don't know how they work... I don't know who you are playing against... I guess it is the casino. I haven't bothered to go back in because it really doesn't matter, since my $$ is lost, unless the casino is feeling charitable and value me as one of their long term players/vips.

As a veteran player, it is a pretty darn incredibly stupid mistake! Most people might make the connection that their starting balance and the amount of cash they had in their cash account was the same. Like I said, it never even occurred to me. And I had not even had any alcohol in my system, so can't blame my state of mind!!

Hi Dave. It was a "free tourney" and there was no button for real. I just joined. I didn't see any other players, but like I said, I had never played a blackjack tourney, so I thought it was "normal". I didn't know there were free tourneys that you use your own $$ for, unless it is signing up and paying the entry fee for the tourney. Aside from the Grand Slam tourneys, I have only played the $50 free ones where you can maybe win something like $12 as a top prize. I assumed this blackjack one was the same.

You can "bet" I will never make that mistake again! Even if it says "free"!!

    ps...

I guess I should add that if I had won something or anything substantial (I think maybe I won one or two hands out of the maybe 9 or 10 I played), I would have still played it down to zero because I thought it was a "tourney". What the heck is a "blackjack tourney" at MG anyways???

I don't fully understand what happened but I know each MG is a little different with their tourneys so I'm guessing you're playing at a unique one.

Commiserations on the mistake though. It's the worst feeling. I was drunk once and REALLY running bad at Jacks or Better for 20 min or so betting max coin.

Except I was apparently playing a different Video Poker - Joker something? I dunno, but it wasn't Jacks or Better. I was clued onto this fact (and the fact that I'd been effectively spewing money) when I think a Joker appeared in my cards and I thought "Hello! That's...unusual."

    Sigh.

    JHV,

I think you were only half-drunk. At least you didnt mistake a Joker for a Jack.
