    Smoked playing blackjack.... Strategies welcome!

I thought I was invincible with the d'alembert system recently! I don't know if anyone ever used this to play online. You start with 1 chip and if you lose add another 2, if you lose 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, etc. And as you win, you progress back 1 chip each win. I was tearing it up, then POW.........lost everything on a few bad runs!!!!!!!! SMOKED!!!!!!!

I'm a little bummed out, but realize this sytem blows donkey butt now. Anyone have any suggestions as to how they play? I guess progressions really do suck afterall, but don't know how else to approach it !

It's pointless. Martingale, but just a blackjack variation.

Why not just use perfect strategy?

It's basically your best shot at reducing the house edge. Don't forget though, the house edge still exists, so you will lose over time if your intention is to play continuously.

Have a look at the Beating Bonuses site. There is a strategy calculator where it will tell you exactly how to play once you have obtained the relevant rules and placed these in the boxes. Self explanatory once you are looking at it.

Thanks a lot! I'll check it out. Is there a betting system to go along with it or just a strategy card to follow to increase your odds, etc. ?

    No probs

If you play perfect strategy then it reduces the house edge by quite a bit compared to if you were just playing it normally. I'd always err on the side of strategies, because in my opinion what works for one won't work for another.

As you stated in your post, that particular one worked initially and then before you knew it everything was lost. Strategies are pretty limited, because let's face it, you have the choice of hitting or sticking, and that's more or less it, compared to roulette where you may decide previous results influence those following (not my opinion though).

Some say that card counting is an option. Again, I doubt it, because most games shuffle the deck after each hand, so just because the high cards are on show one hand won't necessarily mean it won't happen again.

You may devise your own strategy which works, and if it does then good for you. But perfect strategy is the only system I would choose to use.

Hiya: Another way is to force what happens the least to happen over n over again. Bet $4, win and drop to $1, lose and raise to $5. end of set

Won any thing in set 1, repeat.
Lost both bets in set 1, flat bet $1 until a win, and start over with the first bet $4 more than your total losses. example lost $9, first bet in set 2 is $13. Win and drop to $1, lose and raise to $14. end set 2. If you won in set 2 start all over, if you lost, flat bet $1 until a win.

When you win in set 1 or 2, start over. If you lost both sets, then something like this happened.

L-L-L-W-L-L-L-L-L-W. or anything similar. The point is that in this example you lost %80 of the bets, instead of %51-%53 of the bets as normal.

Your total losses in this example would be - $37, and when you hit a really bad run of L-L-L-W-L-L-L-L-L-L-L-L-L-W. Your total losses is $41, instead of - $511.

After back to back sets of losses, you have lost between $30-$40 on average. You now switch to a cross out, and try to win back $10-10-10-10. You only make 2 bets as usual. If you lose the next bet, also flat bet $1 until a win.

You have now lost around $100 or so. You change the cross out to now win back %34 of your losses, instead of 1/2 of them. same betting sequence.

If you also lost this one, then this is a lost session, and you start all over at the beginning. Try it in FUN mode and see what you think.

There's no betting system you can use to make money. Almost all of them involve you slowly increasing your balance and then losing it all and more in one go, as you experienced with you "d'alembert" system!

I guess it makes it more interesting if you're playing for fun, but don't ever fall under the illusion that you're gonna make a profit in the long run.
