    Affiliates?

This is probably a stupid question but what exactly are affiliates when it comes to online casinos and how on earth do you make money out of it?

An affiliate is basically someone who sets up a website that guides players to companies who provide the affiliate wih a bounty on each player to the affiliate. The bounty normally takes one of 3 forms: a CPA (cost per acquisition), revenue share based on deposits, or revenue share based on the total amount accrued from referred customers in any given month.

Affiliates are in every single market - not just gambling. Any website you see with a link to Amazon, Ebay, to book a hotel, to play poker or any product you can buy online will almost certainly be an affiliate. Some huge sites on the web are in fact just affiliates. Sidestep, Trip Advisor etc etc.

In essence, an affiliate needs to know how to set up a website and drive traffic to it. In our arena, a good affiliate will also have a knowledge of the games and casinos but the quality of affiliate sites varies greatly. Some are just sales pitches, some are knowledgable takes on the casinos/poker rooms etc, and some offer unique tools and content or communities.

In my opinion, a "player" makes the best affiliate when it comes to sites talking about the properties and games, although a few sites have very original ideas or very useful content (ie: sports betting comparison sites etc). The most successful affiliate sites in my opinion are those that offer a level of impartiallity, hence why "opinion" sites do very well in most niches.

Virtually every online gambling property offers an affiliate program and if you know how to get trafic - I should pretext the word "traffic" with the word "quality" - it can be a very good business. The main issue is that because the concept suggests you only need to be able to ceate a website, the barriers to entry are very low and you get an awful lot of very average sites swamping the web, plus a lot of spammers jumping on the bandwagon.

    Cheers
