    Bonuses - Reward or punishment?

For many of us, what makes us play, is the hope of one day hitting the big spin, having the super run, that can make some nice change to our ordinary and mayby somewhat boring 9-5 life. The one spin that can secure some dreams of making some changes that would be beneficial to ourselves or that could secure our kids a good education, and a good start to their life growing up.

For most of us, we play, have a little fun with some spare money, having in the back of our head that it would be great to get a nice fat check from one of the casinos.
For many people that dream becomes an addiction that is so strong that it hurts the player, hurts his family, hurts his future, hurts his life.

And when you hear about someone getting a nice hit, maybe even a big jackpot spin, a person that might have had dreamt of one day cashing in a big fat check, way above their normal earnings, just to have it taken away by a small line in the terms of a previous or present bonus, that can be so misleading or vague, that somecasino grabs back the money earned, locks the account and says bye bye is just heartbraking and pisses many of us off.

The way some of the casinos act regarding bonuses, one can start wondering if casino bonuses are rewards or punishment.

And one can wonder what they want to achieve with their bonuses and terms?

Getting people to play and stay, at their casino, or make the player play and run away from the casino?

A casino will always have an advantage over the player regardless if the terms are unreasonably strict or fair.

Thats the way the games are designed in the first place.

So to end my little thoughts, here are 2 suggestions to the casinos that are unreasonably strict:

    1. If you feel the bonus must be hard to understand and overly strict.
    Drop them.
    Dont offer bonuses.
I bet many players will come to your casino if you are fair and not offering bonuses, rather than beeing unreasonable and offering a lot of bonuses-

In the end you will only end up in the complaints section of this site making an ass of yourself, rather than getting new and maybe loyal players.

    2. Do as Rival group. I went there to play a bonus yesterday, and could have made a mess of my bonus and deposit. Fortunately the software popped up a message warning me that the game was not allowed in my current bonus terms.

Btw. I have never had any issues with any casinos over bonuses.

Its hard enough for us to win in the first place, dont piss us off when we once in a while get lucky.

Also,a big thanks to spearmaster for working on new standards for the accredited casinos. Could make life a little easier for all of us.

for me bonuses shouldnt be given as granted, there should be an option, as you mention if someone wants a chance of winning something big they need more money to play with so bonuses are great for this..

but if you want to cashout whenever you like and maybe win a few £'s only then no bonuses are best

still what haunts me is stanleys circus casino... they declined any payout i requested (i had no bonuses on the account) then all of a sudden a rather high bonus was put on the account, so as far as i was concerned i was "forced" a bonus i did not ask for and didnt show on the site, so after checking the terms, it said bonuses require a 20 or so times play through before you could cashout, so i played thinking i had to meet these requirements and lost.... after i had lost i got some emails from them explaining the reason i couldnt withdraw money was because of a "techincal fault" and the bonus was merely put on my account by mistake (although they had not explained this at the time)

all these bonus posts actually make me think that i was completely in the right in this occasion and i think i may do something about it to get my fair winnings that were "stolen" paid out or at least a refund of my initial deposit

The clearplay system at MG was the best. It was designed so that you can play any game (which count different amounts towards the bonus) and cashout at any time without the bonus. It was a way to ensure all MG casinos had simple and understandable bonuses. Unfortunately it has been bent, twisted and restricted so much by the casinos that use it that it no longer serves any of the purposes it was designed for.

I assuming you accepted a bonus and progressives are banned from bonus play. This is a common term at MG (and other) casinos. Always read the T&Cs before taking a bonus!

    Good to see

I play with a set amount $ per month and take my winnings when I can

I do like bonuses that separate my deposit from the bonus $. I play at a few casino's that do this. So if I win with my deposit $ I can take that money out if I need to.

I always look at the terms with regards to play through - I also don't always take a deposit bonus.

I always try t keep in mind that this is all for fun and if I make some $ I am happy :-)

I know some people play with systems or for making $. I know also there has been many players or player groups that abuse deposit bonuses, so I think the few bad apples have made the industry protect the big losses by putting crazy play through's on bonuses.

I keep to casinos known to pay the player with secure ways - CS is a big seller for me.
