Free t-shirts and other non-cash incentives

Do people give a sh*t about these sort of things, or is it only cash cash cash that floats players boats today?

Free t-shirts used to be all the rage, but haven't been seeing them so much lately--and we have some really cool designs. I think they still cause a buzz at exhibits/trade shows... (hmmm should we do an online gaming show for players? Has there ever been a casinomeister party somewhere for forum participants?)

we'll certainly have them for our player parties.... anyone like that as another incentive?

    Thanks for your input.

I like stuff like this...especially if it is a "surprise". If the T-shirt is decent quality, I'd probably wear it, especially if not white. If I joined a casino, had my first cashout and received a T-shirt or other promotional item by snail mail I'd be delighted, or a card inviting me to enter a code and choose style and size.

Even if it went as a clothing donation somewhere, it would be worn and provide the casino with additional advertising.

3Dice organised a party for CM members a few months ago but you must have live chat that is available for all to make it a success. That one was real good though I didnt win anything in the contests.

Presently, I doubt whether anything is better than cash which in turn means extended playtime. I think most of us we are going to lose eventually so if we can get the occasional cashout we are happy.

I dont mind anything free, but I would'nt decide where i play based on getting one or the prospect of getting a free t-shirt. I would be more likely to play if I got free cash bonuses! I would personally not want to wear a t-shirt that advertises any online casino anyway in public, FWIW.

Sending the players a little extra in the mail is in my opinion an underestimated incentive. I have heard that 32red sometimes sends chocolate and wine to their club rouge members, and I have gotten both vegas-tickets and a spa-package from the JF VIP Lounge casino (but thats a while ago, guess the economy has affected the casinos as well). I guess a T-shirt also would be pretty cool, but there is a limit for such coolness. Tacky postcards/notebooks/calenders is quickly thrown in my garbage can.

I don't mind t-shirts, as long as they're tasteful and not tacky.

Just to throw a wrench in the mix: What about more tangible gifts, such as a 200pc chip set that includes a case....the good clay chips that are close to the weight of normal casino chips, which is between 8.5 and 11.5 grams.

edit: I was invited to a blackjack tourney during my last trip to Vegas, and every player was given a gift of what I described above....It even had a dealer button, 2 decks of cards and a blackjack table cloth that you could use on any table...it was very cool, and unexpected. This was at Harrah's.

There were 4 colors of chips and 50 of each - Red, white, green and black.

Sending WINNERS a little extra is an underestimated incentive...you want the players with your cash, those with already positive feelings to return to play more, as opposed to moving on the the next SUB.

Hell, I wish more casinos thought outside the box. Why limit sending gifts only to the winners? Hell, I'd be very impressed with a casino if they sent me something as simple as a t-shirt, after making my first deposit - win or lose.

The key would be NOT to advertise that you're doing this, and just do it out of the blue. Doing stuff like that would definitely make a player remember that casino for years to come. Sure, it'd cost a few bucks for each player that deposited, but hey, that's the cost of doing business, and I would almost guarantee that their player retention rates would increase significantly.
