Well, a recent post by another member highlighted how extreme some of these requests for identity verification are becoming, and for sums that are not all that large.

If a casino is going to want identification, why not make us provide before accepting our deposits? Oh, maybe new customers would not be willing to jump through such hoops, and they would lose out on all those players that move on after a deposit or two (or ten or twenty) with never a cashout.

Or have a set amount set out in the terms and conditions. Here in Ontario, you only have to provide identification to get a player's card for your freebies, or to collect over $10,000.

I strongly suspect that at times the requests for documentation, and the resending, and repeatedly having problems with "not received", "not clear" "now we want something more than we asked for in the first place" are delay tactics, especially when asked of players that have previously provided acceptable ID.

Some casinos have been frank about this and say they dont want to their new customers to be subjected to too much hassle when they are registering/making deposits. This is perfectly understandable. However, the casinos should also try to find ways to relay this message to the players eg in their welcome e-mail or a gentle reminder in a bubble message when they initiate their first cashout "have you sent us your docs yet?"

Unless the casino flushes the withdrawals or are instant in the case of 3Dice, the players can make use of this pending period to send in the reuired identification. It would be much better than to see your w/d being declined in the cashier or receive an email to submit the docs. There are numerous ways to inform the player early.


As for some stupid tactic, next time they will impose additional criteria ie "send a pic of yourself holding your ID card right in front of your house where the street name and no are clearly legible.

I've answered this question a number of times - this is a good one for the FAQ.

It boils down to several things - how fluid the process is from signing up to playing the games for real, and what your competitors are doing. Most casinos balk at the idea of ID verification upon entering and playing - it's usually done after a certain period of membership and/or during cash out procedures.

Think about Vegas and how IDs are NOT checked until you make a substantial win at the slots etc. There is no ID check. Most European casinos check IDs at the door. So it's a business decision based on how fluid you want your traffic to be.

Word to the wise, just have a scanned copy of your ID, utility bill at the ready when you have the chance to cash out. This should take about five minutes of your time to send off - and that should be it.

Provide identification if you collect over 10,000? Wow I've had to identify myself several times with as small amounts as 100 euro..

I was referring to checking the IDs as a business decision for the online casinos - not land based. Sorry for the confusion
