Note the words, MINIMUM criteria.
It seems that being made VIP is NOT about meeting a set of defined criteria, such as earning xxxx comp points during the "upgrade period". VIP here seems to be personal invite, and is probably a PERSONAL decision made by the casino management. Constantly complaining about NOT making VIP actually REDUCES the likelihood of being invited - it makes them think you are just after the bonuses (even though they are a "bit crap" now).
Playing (and winning) their contests has a great deal to do with it, more than they let on. This is viewed as "participation" in the whole experience.
I was somehow made VIP at 60 days, almost on the dot
All I seem to have done differently was continue to play after the SUB, and taking part in many of their leaderboard and other contests. I won quite a few of them, but they were much easier. The later ones are often dominated by "whales", who seem to wager in the MILLIONS during some of the contests. Worse, the prizes are lower, ranging from 400 to 1000 - they used to regularly offer 2500 or 2000 as the top prize. I saw 5000 once

(Who do they think they are, Grand Prive

).
Now, it seems much of this contest money has found it's way into the "free" slot tournaments. Currently, they have on offer a world series of slots promotion in the slot tournament software with a considerable prize fund. This may be more economical for them to run, but carries a high risk if too few players use the options to continue and rebuy.
They seem to run quite a few other "free" tournaments too, over and above the ones run by
MG.
