    Slotmonster,
The responses to your question has been great. So many great ideas. Talk about a lot of creative, caring members.
Well, I would like to give my thought on this too.
About 7 years ago when my parents were approaching their 80's, I decided to write them a letter. I just wanted to put in writing what wonderful parents they had been throughout my lifetime. I gave them each a copy of the letter. My mother I recall, put it in her top dresser drawer with her most personal pocessions. My father did the same, and cried when he read it. ( He's a softie, and a compassionate man.)
I feel that any monetary gift you could give them cannot equal the words of appreciation you can give them.
When my mother passed in 2005, I made sure her letter went with her.
So if you want to give them a gift they will remember, this is one idea.
Also, congrats on all of your wins. you sound like a fine gentleman...and son.

If you don't go the video phone route, consider getting you and your parents a camcorder. That way if you can't see them as often as you wish, you guys can at least trade each other's homemade DVD's/Tapes

There's some pretty cool digital ones out there, including some models that will allow you to record straight to DVD....so if they're not computer literate enough to copy the video from the camcorder to their computer then burn it to DVD, it's ok. As far as price, you're only looking at around $500 for a higher-end model.

One thing to look at too is if they're paying rent/condo fees/mortgage and on a slim/fixed income, you could pay those fees for them for say 6 months or whatever I'm sure they'd appreciate that as well.

Yeah, I know I'm bumping very old thread, but I promised to tell you - and I'll do that Just was searching some info in my profile and ran into this one.

Well, I made full renovation of my parents' house, bought new furniture and domestic appliances. I also bought several tools for my mom's garden. And yes, I bought them large screen TV

It took a bit more than 10k I was ready to spend, but of course I just didn't care about that...

I read the thread now and this was a nice story. I guess that they were really satisfied with these gifts. The renovation of the house can't have been cheap.
