I was playing VP tonight at the B&M and hit 4 sixes right away on triple bonus for 3K. While I was waiting to get paid this guy kept asking me stupid questions on how to play VP. I got paid and continued to play. He kept asking why I was holding certain cards and I politely explained I have to concentrate on the game or I will make a mistake. He said why to you have to concentrate, it's only a slot machine. I ignored him and kept playing. A few seconds later I was dealt 3 aces and two jacks for a full house. I discarded the two jacks and just then he loudly said " why did you throw away the full house ". At the same time I was dealt and 8 and another ace for 4 aces, (6K win ). He looked at the screen and had the nerve to ask again why I let the full house go. I explained that is why you have to concentrate or you could blow $6000 for a mere $175 on a full house. He walked away looking confused. I cannot believe some people. After I got paid I walked out with my winnings and noticed he was bothering someone else on the $2 VP. The funny thing is the Canadian casinos tolerate this harassment while he would not last too long in a Vegas casino. Typical Canadian passiveness ! Cheers...

OMG

I never thought to throw out a full house! That was better than the story!

You are right Juliak
At the Trop, this guy barely got up to me to ask for a cigarette, he maybe got two words out and got thrown out!!

I never thought to throw out a full house!

That is the correct play in several games, including Triple Bonus Poker. If the value of Four Aces is high enough and/or the value of a Full House is low enough, it warrants making this play. Depending on the paytable, you might also keep Three 2s, 3s or 4s instead of a Full House.

I also do the exact same thing when I go up to Harrah's Cherokee,,IE: The last time I was there I was playing a Triple symbol slot machine and their slot machines are unique up there in the fact that you get two spins for your bet,, you spin once and lock any of the three reels you see fit and then you spin again...so I did my first spin and I was betting $10.00 per spin...it gives me on the first spin, two triple symbols and a single bar for $425.00 so I look over at my wife and say ah hell I'm going for the big bucks baby, and she cringes up,, I lock in the two triple symbols and dump the single bar and re-spin the third reel and it drops me a red seven for $4,500.00 sweet dollars,,,so basically I exchanged the $425.00 it had given me on the first spin for $4,500.00 final win....so the moral of the story is "No Risks...No Riches"...LOL

Kinda reminds me after you kick a sucessful field goal in football from inside say the 3 yard line and there is a defensive penalty....99% of coaches as the cliche goes will never take the 3 points off the board even if the penalty grants a first down and half the distance to the goal line....too conservative in that particular situation imo but that is why I do not get paid to coach football:D:p:D

What a great story! The game sounds similar to a UK fruity, except that it's random.

Exactly Slots,,,very similar,, it's actually the only casino that I know of that has those types of slot machines...With Harrah's Cherokee being in N.C. they had to make a deal or pact as the Indians call it with the state that their games would involve a certain level of skill for them to be legal and IIRC IGT special made these slot machines for Harrah's Cherokee...I actually posted some screen shots awhile back in the WSS thread showing some of the wins I've had up there and you can see in those pictures where they have a "Lock" symbol featured on the screen,,,I play that way a lot when I do go up there and it has payed off a lot of those times...those screenshots start on page 1042 Slots if you want to check them out....

Yep, that's a good analogy there Nash...very, very similar !!!

Cherokee dumped about 90% of the lock and rolls for mechanical raffle reels ($600 taxables ) I think most of them landed over at Southland dog park just across the AR line from Memphis

am i missin somethin? was the guy acting vulgar or obscene? why should he be thrown out? though he might have been annoying, 20 somethin years ago i would do the same thing. that is how i learned to play vp correctly. many people dont know the different paytables, and especially in the bonus vps, dont realize that vp play sometimes goes against traditional poker logic. i dont see the harm in asking.

first and foremost - what a moron.

re this moron - if it weren't for him and his kind (playing rather suboptimally), there would be no juicy vp available in casinos, it would all be ratcheted down to slotlike levels. notwithstanding, his behaviour was repugnant. i hope he didn't have any accompanying odours to add to your discomfort.

re football - really, a penalty giving first and goal and you settle for 3? uberlame! unless all you need is three and time is short, even still i'd run it once or twice and TO (or spike it) and kick only at the buzzer. imagine you kickoff after settling for three and they run it back on you? why risk that, don't you want to have possession and rule the clock?

cool thread anyway

I agree there is no way being thrown out is an issue unless there is more to the story than Juliack mentioned (ie I have been stalked before for various reasons and I have been somewhat uncomfortable at times, once it went on for a week in Tunica and until one night around 5 am as I approached the elevator to go to my room and the same woman was waiting there with her agenda of wanting to borrow money, yeah borrow haha, I then contacted security after I got perturbed. Security chose to have her removed from the casino at that point). That said some high stakes players stand on ceremony and do not want to be disturbed. I respect that. However, I am just the opposite and enjoy the social aspect of the BJ game and will even occasionly play at a $5 minimum table as long as the maximum bet is $5000 or plus. I do not like mid deck entry of a player who throws down a $100 bill for one or two bets just to be part of the action and on occasion I will be forced to ask the individual politely if he/she could wait til the deck has been completed. Most comply but it is more superstitution for me and really has nothing to do with the draw of the cards...Juliack, some casinos have roped off tables for me without my request so maybe that may be an option for you if you need full concentration. I do not like the attention of a roped 24 hour reserved table for several reasons some of which I previously mentioned but also the casino I feel by doing this is also implying imo that I should feel obligated to play and I do not like that. Also the heads up BJ play against the dealer is in favor of the casino as obviously the casino has the advantage on every hand dealt and heads up play can increase the hourly hands dealt approx. 30% plus or minus!

I use to live in Las Vegas and loved to play video poker and I too had my way of playing. When peuple asked me why I play hands the way I did - I would always say - " My money my play" It is very irritating to have people lurk around when I was playing I usually ignored them, they would call me a stuck idiot and move on ;)

I have had this so many times playing Fruit Machines. When "forcing" a machine in a place like a Motoway service area, you can guarantee that some kid too young to LEGALLY play will look on and criticise my tactics where I throw away good features, or deliberately lose, in order to buzz up the machine. It is even better when playing an "emptier":D

I quite like the attention, provided it is not too intrusive, as I enjoy seeing the looks of worship when I then win a fortune with my "bad tactics", or even empty the machine before their very eyes:D

in canada, a cooler is where the beer goes when you're outdoors

That ain't nothin'. Check out this bit from a trip report on an Atlantic City board. Just a side note, this is a $5 King Cash machine he's playing in the high limit area at Ballys in AC

Quickly down $200, I opt for $100 more and that is it!! An asian lady sits on the Monte Carlo machine next to me and starts conversing about her losses. Why is she talking to me and not playing? I hope she is not going to start asking for money. I am trying to focus here!!

The lions finally appear and on my first offer, I get 200. Now, some machines show number of credits and others show dollar amounts, but before I could do anything, she leaps up and hits the button to take the offer!!!! OMG!!!!! Are you kidding me!!!

Granted, it was 200 credits and I probably would take the offer, but it is my choice and no one should touch my machine. I calmly inform her that she does not have any right to touch my machine (censored version). I take my ticket and head back to Caesars, leaving her sitting at the machine waiting for someone else to give her money.

That takes some big ones to take an offer for someone else on a bonus game.

I have seen Coolers but I do not they hang out at VP machines;)

We had a television series about BM casinos and they stated explicitly that there were no such thing as coolers, not that I believe them.

On harassment, if you ever went to BM casinos in Macau, this experience by Juliak might pale into insignificance. After losing my money at a casino, I went outside and tried to withdraw from an ATM. There was no cash available so my friend and I wanted to call it a day. Then a scoundrel kept hounding us to borrow from him (loansharks) but we refused. To get away from him, we tried to seek refuge in the casino but he followed us and it took nearly 15 minutes before we could get rid of him. All the time, the casino employees took no action.

I was thinking about that fullhouse so much I forgot to add something about Juliack's original question and I havnt been dealt one yet since lol.

Anyway: I had the opposite problem a few month back when I first started playing VP at a real casino (The Trop). First I checked out all of the VP players..you can kind of tell if they will be annoyed by questions or not by lack of eye contact or lack of a smile when you walk by

I found someone who I thought wouldnt mind answering a few questions, not about strategy , rather the different game choices and the difference. I asked this older man if he minded if I asked him a couple of questions. He politely answered them and I sat a few seats away and began to play

Well, this guy never shut up LOL. He kept going on and on and I kept saying "thank you, I understand now" He started talking strategy etc...OMG, I finally got up and went to another aisle. I just said "this machine is cold"

It works both ways is my point! It is annoying but some ppl dont know when to stop or they are really intrigued by your play strategy.

I try not to socialize at casinos because you never know what you're going to get. I'll make exceptions when arriving or leaving, or if someone beside who is both polite and sober initiates the conversation.

One time at Foxwoods I was walking through a bank of VP machines and noticed a Straight Flush on someone's screen, and he was waiting while it was counting up the win. He noticed that I noticed, so I stopped to say "Nice win." Then he started talking, at which point I realized that he was drunk. He was under the impression that he hit a Royal Flush (it wasn't) and that he should have been paid $1,000 instead of $62.50. Quickly realizing that I didn't want to stick around for this conversation I just agreed with him, then I turned around and rolled my eyes while uttering a silent "ohhh-kay" like they would do in a sitcom. I figured if anyone was watching the cameras they might find the facial expression entertaining, since it's probably a boring job the majority of the time. As I left the drunk was looking around trying to get the attention of an attendant to inform them of the machine's "mistake".

It wasn't harrassment, but I thought I'd share.

when we were down in tunica a couple of years ago, i was sitting next to a woman at ballys, where you could look into the front lobby. i was playing a slot and was winning pretty good and this lady asks me if i could give her enough money for gas so she and her husband and two small kids could get home, she pointed them out to me sitting on a bench there at ballys. i gave her 40.00 and wished her well hoping jim didnt see what i did. that evening we headed for goldstrike and guess who i ran into, she saw me and we made eye contact and if she could read my thoughts:mad:, i couldnt say anything as jim was with me and does not give money to peeps in casinos. ive always wondered if this was a scam she and her hubby pulls or maybe she just had a bad bad problem with gambling, i thought i was doing a good deed and i got played..............................laurie

Happens all the time with gambling including on this forum as some of us know....Can you spare me a dollar or ten,lol?..........................Tunica is notorious for it and they can not even hide behind PM's.................I really do not care what one does with their own moolah as none of my biz but by the same token some things I prefer not to know!:):)

How about indirect harassment from the pit bosses?

On my last trip down to AC, I was having an exceptional run at the blackjack table at Wild Wild West. I couldn't believe how well things were going, as the whole table was winning, believe it or not! How often do you see that happen? Not one person was losing, overall. This goes on for at least a half an hour. It's a $10 table, and we're all betting between $25-300. Guess who was betting the $300...lol

But anyways, all good things must come to an end, right? Now don't get me wrong, I understand that it happens, and don't have a problem when that occurs naturally.

But what happened next hasn't happened to me in about 10 years. THE PIT BOSSES PURPOSELY SWITCH DEALERS. Ask anyone that was at that table, and you'll know for a fact that it wasn't time for the dealer to take their break, nor was it any time near shift change.

The new dealer comes in, they burn a card, and of course we all lose that hand. What happens next, you ask? THEY CHANGE DEALERS AGAIN. Coincidence? Nah. The first dealer that came in only dealt one hand. Anyways, we all lose the next couple of hands, so I see where this is going and get up and leave.

I'm still at WWW, so I go by the table about an hour later and see a couple of the original people at the same table, and ask them how it's been. They tell me they have switched dealers at least 3 more times in the past hour, and everyone's doing good to win a hand.

Talk about unethical...but, are there any ethics in gambling? I seriously doubt that pit bosses need to take an ethics class.

THe opposite happened to me in Vegas believe it or not. It was 630am, I was the only one by Let it Ride, I didnt know how to play it at the time. I asked the dealer to explain it to me. He told me what to do. I said" OK, Ill try it" He dealt me the first 3 hands and I lost all 3 of them (no biggie, when Idont know what Im doing I go to the $3 table lol) The most I lost was $4 because of thet $1 bonus chip you throw in. So, I lost $12 real quick because I was the only one there. The boss came by (he must of heard me when I was learning). They switched dealers after 3 hands! The new dealer comes in and I get 4 8's and hit for $650 on a $4 hand!

I played 2 more hands out of courtesy, I know, I dont have to but I just do as to not to look greedy. I tipped her $50 (noone was around to ask what to tip) Lost the next 2hands and left. As I went to cashout and leave, they put back the original dealer. Sure enough, I was there the next morning! I didnt win at Let it Ride but got WOL symbol, triple, red 7 on the slots :D

Gotta love that old boardwalk casino that is now gone! Those dumps were great to play at
