Hi everyone. I just hit a royal flush on Triple Bonus VP earlier today for 20K at the b&m. I almost always tip the floor person on a hand pay but today was quite different. Anytime a machine hits for more than 15K they have to do an internal check which could take anywhere from 30 minutes to over an hour of waiting time before you get paid. I gave the girl my drivers lic as is required and asked if I had enough time for a quick bowl of soup. I am always so pleasant with the staff but she snapped back they don't have time to wait around for me. I said no problem and hung around for 45 minutes. I finally got paid by the girl with security standing by and thanked everyone and continued to play off my balance of 55 credits. The slot girl hung around me for approx. 30 seconds and left in a huff making it painfully obvious she was waiting for a tip. I am sure this has happened to many of you in an eatery of some sort but you would not expect to see this in a high service environment like a casino. I probably should have said something to the management but in a Canadian casino I don't think it would do any good. I hope my thread does not bore to many people but I just thought I would share this experience. Cheers....
 
That's awesome Juliack, I think you did the right thing if the service was that bad. Hell, if I ever hit something like that they better find me even if I'm in the mens room and pay me!! This should probably be in the land based casino section, but a win like that is welcome news anywhere in the forum!! Congrats!
 
Hi Juliak,

In your place this is called tipping. In Macau, well several years ago, you dont have to tip, they just rob you after you win 2 hands in a row and that happens even if they know you are losing heavily. So it's robbing in Macau and not really tipping.

Meanwhile, was the slot girl the one who snapped back at you? If so, she must be dumb to hope for a tip.
 
The best way to guarantee continued poor or bad service is to reward it. You did absolutely the right thing. If you get poor service at a restaurant, why would you leave a good tip?... that's insulting to the people who go out of their way to provide excellent service. Same goes for a casino, b&m and online. Why deposit hard earned money at a casino if their staff treat you like dirt? Anyway, congrates on your win!!!!

Im glad you brought that up Juliak. My situation I was in was minor but still fits for this thread. I was playing slots and didnt have any cash on me because we stayed over. My money was in the machine. First I wanna say I always tip the waitstaff when bringing free drinks even though I usually just get a 6oz water. I worked as a server, so I know they count on tips

This woman waitress came by and already had extra water so I asked if I could have one. I figured she didnt have to go out of her way and I explained to her that I dont have cash on me even though I didnt have to explain

OMG..youd think I belted her in the mouth. She just stood behind me after I told her too. After about 45 seconds I turned around and said "Im sorry, I usuallly tip but my money is in the machine and my cash is in my room" She said "I can wait" lolol....for a frikin water that she had already? I told her no and apologized. She started huffing and saying she depends on tips to live.

This was at the Trop and you all know I go there often so I was pretty pissed off. I went to a floor manager and told him. He was livid!! He told me to write a letter, he meant it. He looked over to his coworker and said "Ahh, there must be a new one on the floor" LOL. He must of apologized for 10 minutes.

You were right Juliak, for shit sake, you wanted a bowl of soup and she said that knowing you just hit a big one? What an Idiot she was!!

Mate I can tell this got to you a little bit, dont give it a second thought,honestly.

The woman had just come to you knowing you have a sizeable cahout waiting and she speaks to you like that.

I would have told her what she WOULD have gotten off you prior to that little outburst.
 
Congrats on your good luck, juliack, and sorry to hear that you had such an ugly experience. Just to cheer you up - when I was on a visit in Bulgaria, and played in couple of B&M casinos there, I found out quite amusing, that staff deducts their 'tips' by themselves, before handing you the cash you won. Since it happened in two casinos, not one, I guess it is a norm there, and I was too happy to win so chose not to question this practice. ;)
 
Congrats Juliack You did the right thing that anyone would do.
If I hit something and they have to come pay me off I tell them up front if it takes to long for them to pay me I tell them No Tip because most don't tip any of the floor workers.And I don't want them to think i'm one of them.
Fast & Good Service = Tip.

:rolleyes: Tips are not compulsory, regardless of what the casino workers think. You did the right thing -- I don't' care how much you won, that money is yours to do with as you please -- and if that doesn't include tipping someone who snaps and fudges the truth (you DID have time for a quick snack before paperwork was complete), then she's SOL. :thumbsup:

In Tunica, there was a girl at the cashier cage who got snotty with me, waiting for a tip after I cashed in a $1k ticket. Tough crap for her, as that $1k didn't come near making up my losses for that day. So regardless of what she thought, that was not a 'win' and since she was snotty and snippy she wouldn't have gotten a tip anyway. Some (especially new) casino workers think everyone who plays is 'rich', and they see all these 'wins' on the floor and at the cage, and forget that 98% of the players lose their ass.

Losing or winning, I tip for good service... but I am not required to tip -- especially if the service is lousy and/or the person is snappish and rude.

(Maybe we should move this to the Land Based Casinos section?)

I know casino workers don't make much, but if they don't like their job, go to work somewhere else.
 
Like for me to tip I give $20.00 to $30.00 that's if it's over $400.00 and a $10.00 tip if it's under the $400.00.
And if rude 0
They all get a paycheck in the longrun.
It's like my Bus drivers if they are rude I give them nothing because they are still getting paid for the day.
And if they don't take the time to see the people off the bus I may not tip.
My saying is (I Will Give You A Tip For The Day "Look Both Ways Before You Cross The Street)
This tip is better than money It can save your life.
 
I tip anyone and everyone who brings me money
or a drink or anything else in a casino. I tip
on a $2000 handpay when I am stuck $3000.
If I hit $15,000 then $100 bills would be raining from
my hands.. I may even tip the poor soul sitting next to me. :lolup:

I think it brings good luck!! It makes the floor people
root for you to win. We need all the help we can get!

I am from a tipping culture, so my views are different than most..
I was a waitress as a teen, so have always tipped very well.

Especially in Las Vegas: tipping will get you a long way!

As far as I know, slot attendants keep their own tips, so this woman was not the sharpest pencil in the box.
I'm glad you withheld the tip, but would have been thrilled if you had told her why. I would have been even more thrilled if you had told her boss since the attitude could have been interpreted as soliciting a tip, which is cause for disciplinary action (that could lead to dismissal).

Which Canadian casino were you at?
I worked at one of them for several years and saw many, many dealers that didn't bother putting in much of an effort most of the time. They expected tips as a 'right' and not as a privilege. The only way to get rid of the bad eggs is to speak up.

:o I missed the rest of the issue!! I am a great tipper but if some
foolish person snapped at me I would enjoy explaining how
I am the best tipper around AND explain the
$200 or $300 they just lost and remind them to consider this when working for tips.

Never tip for poor service, but you have to tell them why!!;)
 
that was a pretty poor response to get from someone. i would have been pissed especially since you both know how long it takes to get paid. she had no right to snap at you that way and her tip would have reflected that. i still try to tip if service is poor as long as the person is not outright rude. i understand this is how these people make a living and because they have a bad day at work doesnt mean they shouldnt be paid. i know if i had not gotten paid everytime i had a bad day at work i would be picking up aluminum cans right now!:)
 
I didnt even know you were suppose to tip the person that gives you money on the floor. I guess because I never won enough to be paid on the floor LOL.
I also didnt know people tipped the cage people? How come? Do you tip at the horse track too? I never knew that. I did win $1000 one time in Vegas but it came out as a ticket. I gave this old man next to me a $20 I had in my pocket because I felt the need to celebrate with someone and I was alone lol
The time I won $650 at LetitRide, I gave the dealer $25 chip. I had to ask someone and the person next to me said "that sounds right, you gotta be careful who you ask, they could tell you more if their greedy" LOL..I must of asked an honest person

There was only ONE time I said something. There were a huge group of French people in for 3 days at an upscale hotel I worked at. From what I here it is customary for the Eurpeans to get paid more but they dont get tipped. Now, the first day they came in I got Zero tip and there were atleast 5 table of them. I worked for free that morning. I went home ( I was living with my brother at the time) I told him and he is a well traveled businessman and told me that they know our customs and I should remind them nicely. He said "Most" European businessmen that travel know but pretend (his words not mine, dont get mad at me). The next morning, same thing. I went up to one of them and just said "Was my service satisfactory sir?" He said "yes, you were great, why is there a problem?" I said "well, I just wanted to make you aware that in America the servers depend on tips for their pay and I worked very hard the last 2 days" I also said "I feel awkard telling you this but feel you need to know" He felt real bad and rounded everyone up and said to them "You need to this poor girl, shes been working for free the last 2 days" LOL...they all apologized and tipped me nicely and did the 3rd day as well. My brother still feels they knew because they werent tourists . I dont know and Im not judging because I have never been to Europe.
 
I do not feel it is rude to ask the local customs when tipping
or remind someone. As a traveler I make it my business
to know and feel everyone appreciates that.

The europeans actually do tip more these days.. but
it is added to their bill generally as an included 10%-15% charge...
That is why service in America rocks.. we tip more and tip for better service.

Many of my European friends think Americans are big fakes
with our happy smiles and our over attentive waiters and service people....
They usally come to realize it is not exactly fake and end up missing it
back in the EU:lolup: Meanwhile I will take slow service and better coffee anyday

...i always try to tip when i get good service at a casino.i also tip my hairdresser, the guy who puts the grocerys in my car, at eating places. its just good to tip when you get good service, alot of people make a living off tips:)
 
In Italy at restaurant, tips are already included under the voice "service".Usually 10/12%
If you receive a very good service you will leave an extra tip, as sign of appreciation.
Servers, in Italy, get a salary too.
 
Hi Cheeky. As a rule I always tip a minimum of 1% of the win. In vegas I tend to tip more when the local birddogs tell you which machine has paid. They do that for a reason. I hit a multi VP for 100K after a slot person told me the machine I was playing just hit 20K so I moved over two machines and hit within 15 minutes. I gave her a $2500 tip. I also tip 15 to 20% in restaurants. In Europe the tip is usually included but as Kakata explained you could top up their tip if your service was beyond your expectations. Cheers

Screw em . No need to tip , there there doing there job and getting paid . Do you get tipped whn you lose ?

I actually tip big , but for people who do something for me , like a valet or a waiter . No need to tip someone who is only giving me my money .

Do you tip a bank teller when you go to withdraw from your bank account ?

I must say I agree with posters above. If service was poor, so why should I give a tip? And it's not about money. I always give a tip if I win and got paid, but sometimes I don't want to tip because of not being served properly. And it's not only when I play at any casino. I'm talking about restaurants, hotels, etc.
I even give a tip when I play at online casino with Live dealer. One time gave 100$ tip to one of them when I covered number 28 with all possible max bets, and hit it! :) My profit was about 5400$, so I thanked her and gave her nice tip :)
 
If I'm playing poker (1/2NL), the standard tip for me is $1 when I win a normal sized pot, $2 for $50+ pot, and $5 for $100+ pot.

After many losing sessions over the years of playing blackjack, I had come to realize that a lot of the time the dealer would make more than I did when all was said and done, when I would tip during play. What I do now is I'll tell the dealer up front that I'll tip at the end, depending on how the session goes. Seeing as how Blackjack dealers have to split their tips, it really doesn't matter when you tip as long as they don't change shifts in the middle of your session.
 
One of my favorite things todo when in Vegas is to make a $5.00 bet at a game like Black jack and put out a bet/tip for the dealer of $25.00. Yes more than my bet. It is usually not more than 30 seconds and before the dealer has time to deal, security calls down and you are surrounded by the floorman and security trying to find out what you are doing. At least it gets me acknoweldged. Best tip I gave was one night I was on a great roulette run, and put $25.00 straight up on a number for the dealer and it hit. The expression on the faces of the next dealers and floormen, seeing the tip holder full with 35 $25.00 chips and them asking what had happened was priceless.

Hi Winbig. That is the smartest way to tip on table games, at the end of your session. The only other time I tip on a table game, Let it ride being my favorite, is when I hit large in one hand. I have hit 4 of a kind about 20 times since starting in 1995 on Let it ride. The largest hit I had was for $15,000 with 4 queens at Mirage and 3 100's on the table. Cheers..

I forgot about 3 card poker....I tip in the same as you on that game..

4 queens? :eek: nice...

I hit 2 queens playing single deck BJ in Vegas back in december for 125:1 (I think...it would have been much more if the dealer had BJ)...sucks I only had $1 out there for that sidebet. :p Funny thing is the other 2 queens were already dealt out and there were 2 other players at the table. Incredible odds...

A lot of people saw it coming.

Rumors have been flying for more than a year that the high-flying, cash-laden nightclub scene was being scrutinized by the feds.

The shoe dropped Wednesday when the Internal Revenue Service and other law enforcement authorities raided Pure nightclub and Pure Management Group headquarters, confiscating a number of computers.

Cash-heavy operations are known to get the attention of the IRS.

Sources have been telling me that doormen at several clubs are clearing $8,000 to $10,000 a night before they share tips. So much cash is pouring in that some doormen are making $400,000 to $500,000 a year, several nightclub executives told me.

"Pure has guys at the door making more than the president," said one executive with intimate knowledge of the cover-charge system. He was referring to the annual salary of the president of the United States, which is $400,000, plus benefits.

A Pure executive told me over the weekend that 5,000 people showed up for Paris Hilton's 27th birthday party and her guest appearance with the Pussycat Dolls.

About six months ago, on a busy night at Pure, I overheard two men bitterly complaining about the cover charge. "They wanted $1,000 per person. I said the highest I'd go was $800!" one said.

It's not just Pure, the largest club in town with a capacity of 2,400. Grumbles about nightclub gouging have been growing louder.

In my nearly completed book "Vegas Confidential: Sinsational Celebrity Tales," I write: "It's no secret that most clubs understand that the longer the line the higher the anxiety. That's where the 'line slide' comes in.

"If people have been waiting all night, they're not going to go somewhere else and start over," said a club exec (not at Pure).

"Club employees, usually the size of big league umpires, will go down the line and fish for people who really want to get in. The line guy might get $200, but now everyone in the group is still going to have to pay a $30 to $40 cover charge. Sometimes, the doorman demands more, maybe $50 to $100 per person."

Then there's bottle service, which means you have to buy a bottle to sit in the VIP section. The usual requirement is one bottle per three patrons. Two-bottle minimums are not uncommon. Bottles at most clubs are going for $350 to $650 a piece......................

Damn, you'd have to really want to get into the Club bad to pay those amounts...that's what I like about being VIP at Harrah's properties especially in Vegas...I can walk right to the front of the line and get in fast at Club Rio or Voodoo or really any of their other Clubs that they own all over the country...here's a purdy cool website they have...

be careful as there are at least 2 non chicks that are
employed there and from what I hear they pass... :lolup:
(One at Scores too:o)

Meawhile I have never payed to get in Pure but the doormen are indeed rich
at any Club with a regular line :D

My first thought was not "How can anyone blow that much money on clubs when in Vegas" but, "Why?" Now I know I'm really getting old. :p

Rob, you prolly know I do not pay to get any club but I would and would not mind but of course not the extortion as the article references. However I do tip very generously including doormen,hosts,managers and especially the cocktail waitress's and bartenders. Personal preference and assumes good service. Sometimes the so called VIP treatment makes me uncomfortable and I refuse it but they know the game well as usually the casino has given a heads up!

Well considering that I have spent months at a time in Vegas, I appreciate the warning but way too late,LOL and rest assured chicks dig the long ball (and a few other things,uh oh, I mean like Jimmy Choo!!) , would not care to know about the nons!!!!....Actually the Rhino treats me well also and even know most of the managers who I have been introduced to over the years by one of my casino hosts (to remain nameless, Andy,oops) and SR even lets me in the back door where the ladies are lined up to pay their house fees...aren't I special but I tip all:D:p:D...BTW, for those that don't know Scores is the old Jaguars but I have only been to Scores once with my casino host (another damn social obligation:nod::Angel::nod:) when it opened back up about 3 years ago after being shut down. I actually get e-mails promos from Scores,:what:pretty sad!:eek:

I got some left over from when they injected them to my leg for the pain. It made my face blow up and I gained weight so I stopped doing it. I have 3 bottles of dexamethasome that are still not expired if you want them LOL

You gotta come here to get them though. Is that legal? Its not narcotic so Im guessing Im not saying anything wrong. If I am, nevermind:D

Couldn't agree with you more Nash on the extortion aspect of it all...and I also tip real well when I'm at a land based casino...I figure as much as I'm spending there I need a few extra perks...especially the sucking up part by the cute cocktail waitress's...that definitely makes me feel better when I've just lost a couple grand...but seriously though I also tip everyone well, and they all remember my name and my preferences the next time they see me...

babs, dex is an anti inflammatory. like prednisone but alot stronger. wont get ya buff!
