question about game logs

i recently asked for some game logs to be sent to me in excel format because it seems it's the easiest way to look through large amounts of data. i was told it would not be a problem.

but instead, i was given the game logs in a wordpad format. what do i do with this? is there a way to transfer it to a more friendly format like excel. or is this the usual way game logs are sent? i can't figure out how to manage this kind of data in a "word" or "wordpad" type file.

if anyone has any experience with game logs, please tell me what i should be asking for. the ones i got have a lot of info like bet, win, lines played... but doesn't show the balance at each game.

Is it in a .txt file format? If so you can import into Excel, by going to file.....import.

though i have excel on my other computers, the computer i use for online gaming has only the openoffice applications (wanted to see what they were like). pretty much the same as the windows applications.

i was able to turn the .txt file into a spreadsheet but it was a lot of work and demanded a lot of resources because of the size of the data.

i have to say, if you have never looked over game logs, it's quite a blast because it's like re-living your sessions without having to watch the graphics. also, you can get actual data of things like: total payback or payback in a particular session, number of bonuses, average bonus payout, spins between bonuses, payback between bonuses, payback at different wagers, etc..... really, almost anything!

but ask for the game logs in excel format because that enables you to do everything without the hassle.

i had to look up what a .csv was (comma separated values) . the game logs i received were in .txt format, but the values were separated by commas. that allowed me to import them into a spreadsheet format. is that sort of the same thing?

my logs consisted of 20000 spins, i don't know if that is small or large.

as a side note, lol.... lojo, your occupation is listed as a tradesman? when i clicked your profile i was expecting something with a phd! how do you retain all this stuff? and continually drink mead, lol.

.csv sure works as a spreadsheet file. tab delimited.. comma seperated values, they all convert Meister recently added .csv as an acceptable attachment (max file size is under 100KB though)

Hippo, as I have said to you before I am somewhat limited in my knowledge of slots but I continue to study slots independently like you as well as validate some posts by Brianzz,Kimss,VWM,Zoozie,Rusty et al who seem to all have a greater working knowledge of slots than I as I prepare for a February 28,2008 meeting. (Eliot, I will PM you in regards but it is a done deal I am told)......my understanding theoretically is payouts (unless specified otherwise) are quoted to infinity although when I mentioned this to Eliot, he mentioned a caveat of that theory that I did not comprehend honestly. I will get clarity.....Most recently, Brianzz's posting of a PAR sheet (it is in your "how slots work" thread) confirmed that 10000 spins on the subject game per an enclosed PAR sheet (with an overall return of 97.4%) would prolly give an expected return (in a B & M slot) ranging approx. from 83% to 111% and the PAR sheet showed even after 10000000 spins there was still about a .45%+/- range of the PAR sheets quoted expected overall 97.4% payout (which I assume is based on infinity but I want to check).....my conclusion is your 20000 spins once again is basically meaningless unless your return was so many sd's from the approx. 84% to 110% expected return (interpolated)....NOTE: will check Brianzz's post,interpolate, and clean up any numbers I may have quoted incorrectly.-DONE

i think your conclusion is absolutely correct. 20000 spins is not a lot depending on what you are trying to evaluate and pretty meaningless in the grand scheme of things.

but 20000 spins i think is plenty to evaluate one's own play at any game or casino, if only to get a "general" idea of how a game played for you in the past. in some cases, i think it can even help to optimize your play. there's no chance in heck i'm gonna evaluate 10000000 spins, lol. 20000 was plenty for me! if 20000 spins gives "me" certain results, i think i can safely assume the next 20000 spins would be similar.

but i do think i have to agree with you and eliot 100%!!! the only way to really evaluate a game or casino would be to do a complete audit by a professional... especially for every online casino. For fairness sake , i just don't see a way around this.

i'm guessing "information technology" or some sort of consulting for hi-tech stuff.

Don't forget about tequila... mead's evil cousin, twice removed, who is ALWAYS causing trouble. ( i actually quit drinking, except for the occasional "social" wine once a month, about 8 years ago after getting really sick from tequila... apparently it was the cheap stuff.)
