Why don't we stop? I get to that point where I think, OK..next time EVEN IF I DOUBLE my money (even if its $50 to $100) I'll cash out.

And just thinking of that mentality...a friend of mine plays local poker tournaments..you know, just small stuff, but regardless its wins. Like she might start off with $10 or $25 and win $250 and be as happy as can be.
And I'm thinking...Ok..and I asked her, does anyone ever win anything big, like over $1,000?

I'm no high-roller by any means, and there's times I'd be glad to have $40.
As far as online gambling, I don't know if its not being able to get the money in hand right away and walk away or what. Or if you just want to keep playing to have fun, and hope for more and more. Sometimes I wish it could lock itself after you win a certain amount and not let you play till its been processed and paid out to you.

I don't get to the point where I'm depressed about it, but it just seems like I wish I could control myself, and be happier about walking away with ANY profit/win.

And comp wins, especially..where you turn a $10 comp into over $100. I try to make excuses to myself like "well, its money I never had in the first place". But then I think (and I know this is extreme), its also like someone giving you $1000 to start your own business, you manage to turn it into a multi-million dollar empire, and because of poor money management/decisions, it folds and goes right down the drain.

Any thoughts on this...at least so I don't feel completely alone in my insanity of this issue...I appreciate it!

we all go through that at one time or another you are not alone ive always said gambling is like a rollar coaster ride it up and down all the time and sometimes throws you for a loop. i hope you get to feeling better about this but if not take a small break it does help and youll come back imo with a better attitude, i know ive been there.......laurie

Don't worry you are not alone.
It is the gamblers curse to keep playing until there is nothing left to play with.
I think most peeps will have been there.
However you may be able to trick yourself into cashing out on occasion :p
First inform you casino that you wish to have reverse cash out option removed.
If they will not do that then play at a Casino that does not have this option or better still play where payouts are very quick.
Decide on a realistic target to hit with your deposit, say x3 your deposit if you hit your target cash out any winnings leaving only your initial deposit.
Log out and take as longer break as possible (Do some chores or whatever) so that when you go back to play you are not in that complacent "I've won now mode" and before you start remind yourself that whatever happens you absolutely will not deposit again today SO MAKE IT LAST
Obviously rinse and repeat if you get that lucky.
If you can do this just once then you will know that you have the willpower and that you are in control.
After that it becomes easier to maintain the regime.

A word of caution though
Any relapse will be catastrophic  so it is a one time deal.

Good luck, Merry Christmas Cynthia

It all depends on the person and what they've set as their standards. I may deposit 10-15 times in a day... but no more than 20 dollars each time. Then I low-roll it and hope I can get somewhere with it. If I break the $400.00 barrier, then I cash in....hopefully! :p Well that's the plan anyway!

I find that if I deposit it all at once, then I play stupid!

You are definitely not alone Cynthia777, I find that I play and win for a while then stop for a while and tell myself, no more for today, but then a few hours later I am back having another go.

I also find that I am my own worst enemy when it comes to winning and losing. Once I have won and start losing I want to get back to where I was when the losing streak started in a hurry and lose patience and my bankroll.:axeman2:

I keep telling myself be patient and the streak will turn.....but:puke:

Hi all,

I put this problem down to the fact that we play with credits on a screen. Whereas if I play at a land based casino I got cash, I can cash out immediately.

All I know is when I pay land based and if win a few thousand, I'm up at the cage and I'm out of there. Where as I've been up $10K at a online casino and blown the lot, go figure.

Cheers

Trezz

Worse than that (thinking- "win and stop for awhile") is that feeling or telling yourself "if I log out now, when I log back in the streak will end...i.e., its on a roll". I know that really may sound like one of those crazy "quirks" we all have from time to time in gambling, but I still can't help but think that had I not fallen asleep (was still logged in but computer was slow when I woke back up and started again, so I had to log out and restart)...the bankroll would not have "dwindled".

But, yeah, like I said..sounds crazy, but its a shame we get like that sometimes..just can't help ourselves

In true reality we are always looking to hit that Big Rainbow to see that Big Pot Of Gold at the end of it.
It's some kinda High you get when the backroll is up and you have that extra money to play with.
But I have learned when to stop and walk away.Even if I wanted to stop at $100. or $200. ahead.
My Father once told me "If you gamble and make up to what you would make in a days pay Stop and go home and come back some other day"
We are all human and we all know that feeling.
Win Today Lose tomorrow
All we can do is hope for the best

As long as one gambles (at basically the same stakes and bankroll), it does not matter if you stop after a win now, later today, next week, 5 years from now. Your winnings (in some form usually money) will always end up back on the other side of the table period even in a fair game. It is simply a question of when assuming you play at the same stakes (and can not count cards correctly). The only way around this is to quit while ahead forever.......Time and time again as I have been up in the 6 figures only to lose it all back and sometimes more, I get all the experts (my Jewish mother knows everything,LOL) saying why didn't you come home or buy something. 99% always miss the flipside, even if I bring it home, how long is it going to be before I jump on a plane thinking I will go make some more of that easy money (which is similar to rebooting the computer in comparsion).......money management and discpline are essential (to maintain some form of a bankroll) but in the long term will not make you a winner as I once asked KK has forever arrived yet pursuant to an old siggy of his I disagreed with (and he graciously modified,btw).....I you ever hit a big win that would increase your financial security then cash in your chips for good, otherwise there is a 100% gurantee unless you can count cards (and there are millions who claim they can but prolly less than a few thousand that can do it with the necessary precision required)........other factors at play include dopamine and addiction, greed, insecurity, poor self-esteem,etc.......if you can afford gambling with a full understanding of the consequences at play (does not effect your financial security, emotions, self esteem, self idenity, family, etc.) and it provides recreational affordable entertainment, then by all means enjoy it and wonderful:thumbsup:

Great thread. For the last 2-3 months I've been in a similar situation. I win big and probably have a bunch of screenshots to post. I just won a royal flush VP yesterday. But guess what... I've lost it back and then some. No matter how many times I tell myself, deposit this much and that's it. I don't stop at that. Or I go on some tilt session and try to win back the money. I keep detailed track of my deposits/winnings/losings, so I know exactly where it goes. This just makes it feel worse.

Now I don't have any advice for you since I can't get myself out of this hole either but at least you know someone else out there is experiencing what just happened to you. :sob:

I really like BingoT advice about a day's wages and stopping. But then we don't always have winning sessions.

Cynthia777, I think your friend is probably giddier than you because she is really enjoying herself. For me, honestly, at this point, I don't feel like I'm having fun but rather forcing myself to have fun. I guess that's the difference.

You would think the whole internet funding fiasco would slow me down but it doesn't stop the funding. Hopefully we can both work this out and not create a huge hole in our pocketbooks before it ends.

This post has really made me think about setting goals before I log into another casino. I think we need to put our energies toward something else so the urge to play isn't as great. I've heard it takes 21 days to break/learn a habit. We'll see.

Excellent post NoMouthToScream and BingoT, when I first started gambling online I used to do what your father told you BingoT, and it worked out really well for a nearly 3 months. I was up over $10000 after starting with a $250 deposit. I was using a system playing Roulette and making between $50-200 for an hour session, playing two-three sessions per day, then I got greedy and started making mistakes with progression bets and lost the lot over a 5 day period.

Another mistake (but easy to fall into sometimes) is when one RELIES on getting a win to MAKE them happy. In other words, its really not good (at least I found for me) to gamble when I'm upset about something else, or extremely restless and bored. I think with people like my friend, they have so many other outlets to keep themselves busy, that gambling TRULY is just recreation...the less you do something, especially if it turns into a big win, I guess human nature would dictate that you appreciate it more...

It's all self control.
And only gamble what you can afford.Because I can go into that preaching stuff but NASH has a great point.
if you can afford gambling with a full understanding of the consequences at play (does not effect your financial security, emotions, self esteem, self idenity, family, etc.) and it provides recreational affordable entertainment, then by all means enjoy it and wonderful
One of my old saying is.
"What You Don't Have Today You May Have Tomorrow"
I have had many many times of the "Days Pay theory and I did walk away but you have somedays that you do feel different about yourself and this is your only Out you have.and we all need an out at times.
And for the next three days & nights at Foxwoods is going to be My Out lol
All I have to do is watch the Wife she tends to go crazy.

That would be it, it comes to a point it's only numbers on the screen. I very seldom wager $40 pr spin in real casinoes, however I find myself doing it quite often online.

The day instant cashouts was possible the world would be so much better in the online world!
