Another Debit Card rejection by a Payment Processor.

I've had a P4F account at UK Casino Club for a while so today I thought I would turn this into a real account. No problems until the critical point - when I tried to deposit using my Barclay's Debit card, it was declined.

Online Chat told me the usual rubbish - it is my bank which is rejecting the transaction, and I need to contact them as they probably don't allow online transactions, or possibly I don't have enough money in the account. Yada! Yada! Yada! All not true.

They 'graciously' told me that if I sent the front/back copy of the card used to make the deposit (WTF????) and other proof of identity, they would attempt to manually override the deposit restriction. To which my reply was unprintable. I'm not giving away details of my bank card willy nilly to all and sundry, particularly to a Casino who won't allow me to use it in the first place.

I seem to be encountering this problem more and more - it really is pot luck as to whether or not the card is accepted by a new casino. At casinos I am already using there is simply no problem.

Does anyone have any idea what is happening? I am getting tired of the casino blaming my bank all the time. As I am using a Debit Card (not a credit card) the money in the account is mine, and surely the bank does not have the right to dictate as to how I use the funds?

BTW - I am UK based with a UK bank account.

I don't usually have any problems with my UK HSBC debit card. The only time it gets declined is if "unusual" activity is detected and my card is automatically blocked, it happens rarely and usually only if I make lots of deposits over a short space of time. A phonecall sorts it out. Have you asked Barclays if they decline any gambling transactions?

BTW - I am UK based with a UK bank account.
This may be connected with the recent loss of 25Million sets of personal details by the Customs and Revenue. The whole UK banking system has been put on red alert, and such problems are very likely.
I have sometimes had this trouble with my credit cards, and recently I had this with my Barclaycard. The banks have software that identifies unusual patterns of transactions, and if you have never used the card in this way before the transaction will be blocked. If it is at the bank end, you will either receive a call or letter from them detailing the transaction. You will either have to inform them it was genuine, or that it was a fraud attempt.

The casino MAY have a way to process this manually, but it involves a degree of deception, as they will be trying to get around the bank's fraud detection software. If the casino can do this, it folows that a fraudster could also bypass the bank's security systems, not a pleasant thought.

It could also be the casino lying to you about it being your bank, and it may be their processor, in which case this method will work. I expect casinos have learned how to do this because of the UIGEA affecting American players, so in this way the US has helped fraudsters by making the development of such methods necessary to process US based player's deposits.

If you are expected to hand over these details, casinos should be prepared to hand over the truth. You can easily find out if the casino was lying by contacting Barclays, and at the same time getting the block lifted if they confirm it was their system.

I found my Lloyds debit card blocked from online casino transactions, despite it being VISA. I also found Lloyds VISA credit cards do not work at online casinos.

loganberry, if you post or PM me the first 6 digits of your cardnumber I can check the banks policy on gaming for you.
(don't worry, the first 6 digits don't identify you or your card, it's just an identifier for your bank, and you posted the banks name already anyway)

    I have pm'ed alfred666 as requested.

However what I don't understand is the inconsistency of what is happening.

I opened a PaddyPower account yesterday - no problems.
I opened a Lucky Nugget account today - declined.

I use this card at all my regular casinos without any problems - same are VBV and some aren't, so that isn't the inhibitor.

The card is a Visa Debit card, but also a Connect card - is that the problem?

All I know is that I am getting very tired of this. I think I will stick with my favourite casinos and not bother with any more.

So Ladbrokes, WillHill and 3Dice - you are all winners....

your bank does not block gaming transactions per se, meaning that casinos do not need to "tweak" the way they are processing such transactions.

Your problem seems to be either related to a block on a common processor used by the casinos you have problems with or by risk filters on your banks end as vinylweatherman mentioned.

The easiest way to find out is to attempt a transaction. If it is declined, call your bank's support number (on the back of your card) and ask why it was declined (and ask them to allow such transactions). If your bank doesn't see any declined transaction, it was blocked off by the casino's processor (before even being passed on to your bank) and you need to follow up on this end.

Players reported this a day or two ago. Poker Stars has said that All Access blocked all gaming transactions Tuesday.
