The Australian Government is equally as hypocritical as the US (Federal & the 11 States banning on-line gaming). Most States have their own Casinos & there are Poker Machines in every Hotel, Club, etc in the state of New South Wales (it's capital is Sydney), but they ban on-line gaming..... It's a joke!

But surely the ACLU, Constitutional Groups and especially the citizens of the State could bring pressure to bear on the supporters of the Governor?
I mean those who contribute the BIG BUCKS to his campaign coffers.

Why wouldn't the people find out who his major financial backers are & start boycotting their products, sending them partitions .... hurt them financially or publicize their support of a Governor who would attempt to restrict the rights of American Citizens.

Most politicians only give "lip-service" to public opinion, but if you start to give their financial political backers a hard time... that's when they sit-up & start to take notice.

We are already in the shit because the Australian Government pushed this legislation through on the basis that it would be better for the poorer class of society to be protected from wasting their money on on-line gambling ( but they are quite happy to take their tax percentage from every other sort of legal gambling).

The Massachusetts proposed bill won't hurt me, but the mere fact that Governments interfere with one area of an industry & seem to give a financial fast-track to another burns my ass and smacks of a financially driven scheme for the Government.

I wish you better luck than we had.

But that doesn't make sense... Don't you think the poor people wouldn't have computers and would go to the land casino? If they don't want to let poor people gamble then keep online gambling and ban the land casinos...

The whole concept of protecting the poorer people from wasting their money on gambling is a nonsense.
The government has a majority sharehold in the TAB and they have a branch in almost every town in Australia. In the TAB you can make a bet on horses races & dog races.
The government also has a majority sharehold in the lotteries that are sold everywhere.

So, those that are poor have better access to government sponsored gambling than on-line gambling.

I believe that it was too hard for the government to be able to tax on-line gambling and that is the ONLY reason why they made it illegal.

Valid issues. I'll debate later if welcome

Edit: I misread your post lolli, or carried over from another, forgive me for now.
