Online gambling to relieve flight boredom

It's been mooted by Ryan Air for some time, but as early as next year airline passengers could find relief from boredom in the form of inflight gambling from online gaming group 888.com.

By complying with the new and more liberal UK gambling regulations, airlines could make inflight gambling available on long-haul flights, reports the Brit newspaper The Sunday Mirror. Passengers will be able to log on to the Internet and stake cash on games including poker, blackjack and roulette, the report claims.

Major mover in the intiative is Gibraltar-based 888.com, which already reaps revenues of GBP 1.2 billion a year from Britons, according to the Mirror's report.

Passengers will be able to use their inflight TV screens to access the online casinos. After selecting an option on their screen, they will be linked to an 888.com website where they can use a credit card to place bets. British Airways, Singapore Airlines and Cathay Pacific have all signed up to the scheme and others are expected to follow.

Gigi Levy, CEO of 888.com, said: "This will attract more players in more places every day."

The anti-problem gambling organisation Gamcare has urged 888.com to introduce caps on the amount people can bet and the time they spend on games.

What if you fly over a country that has banned casino gambling.
Example from Canada to Brazil. And since it is illegal to gamble in the US and you fly over it.
Hmmm a whole new type of laywers type comming out i can see in the future.

But not 888.com as I find them dodgy to say the least.

As long as the airline can provide the internet I couldnt you just log in to your normal site and play the non-download version anyway?

Wonderful! As long as all transactions are processed inflight, it should be good to go! I would guess there is 'maritime'(?) law that applies to the skies like the seas. Prolly not.

Boring, click off.... Used to be I couldn't get a drink on a train in Utah (passing through on amtrack, not clubcar) used to be I couldn't get a drink on a plane flying 'too low' in utah (coach) used to be I could get a drink going TO alaska at 6am but not from AK to Seatac at the same time of day.
Used to be you had to be seven nautical miles off the coast to be in international waters, now 15' or sumsuch will get you on the LA riverbelle (bad choice of names, because that was an inagural floating casino) and since those goombas and the Tribal Casinos did it, I don't know if atlantic city is kosher, or tunica or anything else. There is Utah and Hawaii in the States that have no casinos, afaik, the rest of it is a weird wild bunch of rip-off crap other than Nevada (possibly AC and which other States have nonlottery true casinos? Mississippi?) My point is, and I told you it would be boring and you can still click off, is that there seems to be something cooking in the EU trying to capitalize on gambling. Asia has their own ' two' <not two> systems, eu has rules and regs, UK has the current... nobody in the US is going to stand up and say 'WE ARE GAMBLING' it is corporate and fine for us because we got left in the dust on this. I'm still of the opinion that the capital of the world is the capital of gaming as things move this way.

Mobile phones work on airplanes - people can gamble such. Airlines that offer gaming over their own servers are in the mix. Entertainment partners (888) or whomever damn well better offer a product equal to or better than a table or slot in vegas with no BS attached. Because, like it or not, until Antwerp is the benchmark, Vegas rules rule, and everything else is pissing at the stars.

ffs, from sf go to lv or reno/tahoe in minutes, less than an hour counting security. Is it the thrill of gambling on a plane? i really don't get it. Use your mobile if you are international, Gunther, txt bla bla bal to bla bla casino taking off and landing.

Alternatively you can befriend the Saudi billionaire Prince Alwaleed bin Talal as he just ordered a customised superjumbo which is the world's largest passenger airline for his private use. This airliner, called A380 can reportedly be fitted with casinos and can seat 525 passengers in 3 classes.
