NEED HELP WITH SOFTWARE DOWNLOADS PROBLEM

I hope someone with computer expertise can help me.

A while back I began having difficulties downloading any type of software from the internet that uses its own installers such as WEBHANDLER, Downloader helper and even Installshield.

I am able to download but once it has downloaded and I try to open it I get various error messages the "internet explorer can not download from site____. Or installshield errors with Ikernel.exe problems.

Can anyone shed some light on why I all of a sudden started having the problem and how to fix it.

I downloaded installshield updates, and made sure these programs are not being blocked.

Did you try to download the software with another browser (i.e firefox)?

It sounds like a security setting issue to me but I'm not an expert.

First of all, it could be spyware or a virus or worse, keyloggers etc. They can be dangerous!

Do an extensive scan using appropriate software as a lot of the website operators have spy ware or virusses embedded in their software.

If it is not a spyware or virus issue..

It could help to add the site that you want to have stuff downloaded from to your 'trusted sites'

I had it a few times that I was not able to download casino softwares, after adding the site to the trusted pages tab, it was over.

How to do so?

1 - Open Internet Explorer..
2 - Click tools or options
then go to security

There you (should) see 'trusted sites'

Simply add the site here and you should be ok.

For a good spyware scan, I would recommend Spyware doctor.

For a good virus scan and protection, I would recommend Kaspersky

For a better look at your problems I would need more details or error messages etc.

Another update:

I did some research on your problem and this is what I came up with:

ikernel.exe (symten worm) - Details

If your computer has the ikernel.exe process on it, your pc may be infected with a variant of the symten worm.

ikernel.exe is considered to be a security risk, not only because antivirus programs flag symten worm as a virus, but also because a number of users have complained about its performance.

symten worm is likely a virus and as such, presents a serious vulnerability which should be fixed immediately! Delaying the removal of ikernel.exe may cause serious harm to your system and will likely cause a number of problems, such as slow performance, loss of data or leaking private information to websites.

for complete peace of mind i would suggest a clean wipe and fresh reinstall of your operating system, followed by install and update of all microsoft patches and fixes. I do this regularly purely because you never know what your going to pick up or when or how dangerous it can be. To me its the only sensible option of proceeding considering you use the internet for banking and financial transactions. Doesnt take long if you have backups and you get a clean slate.

I picked up that virus a while ago.

I ended up getting Mcaffee anti-virus and Mcafee got rid of it fast and with no problems.
