Obviously cheaters are so stupid that they get greedy. It is forthcoming that they will bust you if you keep winning all the time. By playing smartly I don't think they can ever bust you. The same happened with the Hungarians at Ritz club where they beat roulette but the muppets after winning more than half a million in one night they went back again and eventually ended up at court

Why would we ever want to cheat if we had a working system, when we could just use the system and win anyway?

    Cheat

It seems the cheat was in looking at the dealer cards with slow motion camera. This goes beyond using mathematics and skill in beating the dealer, and is probably why the ringleader was jailed. I was shocked at first about the 9 months, as I thought they had merely used the technology to crack the maths behind the game by card counting.
Multi-player 3 card poker may well be beaten by card counting, as only one deck is used and strategy is pretty simple (raise on Q,6,4 - but with variations depending on known cards).
The cheat may have been exposed as the casino noticed the players raising on the "wrong" hands and winning because the dealer did not qualify - this would certainly got the attention of the security staff!

They really screwed up by being too greedy, they could have run this scam by staying closer to the strategy, but making subtle variations that could be the result of human error, such as raising on any Queen high when the hidden camera showed the dealer not to qualify.

The deck is shuffled before every hand, so there is no scope for card counting.

You can usually see some of the other players' cards, but this will not eliminate the house edge. Ask the Wizard:
Wizard -What is the advantage in Three Card Poker in playing two hands versus one, if there is one? Some casinos allow you to play two, playing the first hand before looking at and making a decision on the second hand. Some casinos will only let you play the second hand blind, which I'm sure is no advantage to the player. Thank you - Ruby DeVos from Tacoma, USA

Good question. In Stanley Ko's booklet "Mastering Three Card Poker", he says that if you had a concealed computer to take maximum advantage of the information then seeing the first hand would lower the house edge from 3.37% to 3.31% on the second hand. Even if you could see all seven hands at the table the house edge would still be 2.32%. Mar. 6, 2002

On the other hand, if you have just a little information about the dealer's hand, you can turn 3 card poker to your advantage as explained in http://wizardofodds.com/newsletters/2003-09-06.html.

    Interesting...

In general the more run-down the casino the more likely you are to find flashing dealers. Of course there are exceptions. The best flasher I ever saw was at the Bellagio, and unfortunately I had very little money on me at the time.
Vegas Baby then next hols - (as in PINAbaby)

On a serious note, I notice the MG dealer flashes the cards in Three Card Poker GOLD - but then the cheat switches them
