The "want our action?" thread really prompted me to start this poll. I think it'd gain quite a bit of interest, as well as make people *think* about where they stand in relation to wins/losses for the year.

And don't even think about voting for "Broke even"...you know that isn't true!

Enjoy ;)

Edit: If you use a different currency, just estimate what it would be in USD :D

EDIT 2: The numbers above are NET, NOT GROSS!

Hmm tricky one for me as I changed strategy in March/April and have done a lot better since. Also, I don't count - so I guessed :D

I had to guess myself, and I didn't like the number...-~$6k.

I hope this thread will enlighten some people that may have a problem with gambling and realize just how much they have lost. I know it has for me (It's not a problem though).

One of my goals this year is to keep better records!

PS: Net winnings are still net winnings...it doesn't matter that you changed strategy or not :p

PPS: Read edit #2 in the OP...Those numbers are NET, not GROSS ;)

Oh drat... I really hoped no one would do this this year and I could get by without all that nasty adding and subtracting (going to be entirely too much subtracting this year). :xxx And as I can no longer access casinos where I played the most (Mummy's, Global Player, etc.) it's all going to have to come from my notes.

I'll have a few stiff drinks, run my numbers, slit my wrists, and I'll be back later on with my 'vote'.

Did I already say I really don't want to know how bad this year has been?

As far as online I'm up sh#t creek in a barbed wire canoe spearing tadpoles with a crow bar.

I'm in the hole for around $30K give or take a few.

B&M I'm actually up this year, not much, $9K still better than being in the red :D

One Microgaming:

Deposited: 51k ish

Withdrew: 39k ish

= About 12k the wrong side.

Throw in the other MG's, the Crypto's and the Wagerworks - and I don't want to do the math!!!

Ok, I'm up at some - but I reckon it's easily just the wrong side of 20K. Not a good year, and hence why I'm cutting down my online bankroll DRAMATICALLY in 2007!

Keep an eye on that Winner Screenshots thread for more .90p hits :D

I'm up about ~$40k since I started gambling on Memorial Day weekend. I bought a Mazda RX-8 with some of my winnings earlier today. I'm planning to spend the remainder on replacing carpets and furniture that the dog in my avatar damaged (I bought her with gambling winnings too), new kitchen cabinets, and whatever is left on my mortgage.

Even if they are half your age, necrophile and never had *** with a live woman before?
You know what... I don't like to brag about my necrophilism... You should just forget i said it.

So I was walking on the street the other day and suddenly.... I get a call from a friend. Just a regular call - nothing fancy. He asked me if it's possible to earn money playing online casinos. I was about to answer him but then it hit me... a traffic light. Just a regular traffic light - nothing fancy. My instinct was to scratch my forehead and whisper a silent "ouch". For some reason he was pissed off and told me that the fact that my mother had a sex change operation should not prevent me from telling him how rich I am by playing online casinos. He hung up. Just a regular ending to a conversation - nothing fancy.
Anyway - it got me thinking about gambling. I actually did a huge profit... about $1.5-2k (I'm a low-roller... extremely low) but when you have to attend to a daily conversation with the casino about withdraw, bonus abuse, getting what they promised me, misleading promotions etc. I can't say I was entertained the whole time. My relationships with certain casinos ended up in the same traffic light.

Anyway - Congratulations to the winners!! (40k? DAMN  )
And to those who lost... Just keep yer smile on yer faces...

Can women apply too? :p

Hey....I'll try (almost) anything once (or twice).

As to the necrophilia, may have to pass on that one. A girl's gotta set some standards for herself!! :D

I started gambling again in late March after 1.5 years of not gambling with the help of GA meetings. I've lost about 13k + this year online and another 8k in B&M. I've spent the last 2 weeks spending money I don't have trying to win it all back (stupidly). Oh how I wish I hadn't ever started again.

I've won about £40k this year (~$78k for the purposes of the poll)

I am far from being a bonus "abuser", but I seldom play in a -EV situation. Thus I think I can attribute (at a guess, i've not kept detailed records) perhaps 70% of my profits to expectation, and 30% to good luck :)

At the start of 2006 I was gambling like an animal LOL , I took one of my biggest hits ever in the SuperBowl . Took a break ..

Midway through the year the urge was to strong to walk away from it , started playing.. Deposited $200 in Canbet and won over $2k , played BET365 deposited $400 and won $3k , played BODOG lost over $4k there , the usual sports betting win some lose some .. wound up breaking even .. played a stupid ass local run casino / book BETHORIZON.COM ( Mercedes software ) very shady software I should have known better .. played CANBET again.. won over $2k .. I finally paid of my bookie of the terrible hit I took on Superbowl day .. I will leave the amount I lost to ones imagination I lost in Feb 2006 paid him off till Nov 2006 ..

I now have $1000 even I PM 'd Inetbets rep here and they told me I am good to play at their casino .. WISH ME LUCK.. Daddy needs to pay the bookie !!

Happy New Years to all !

Hmmm judging by the poll results it seems the Casinos may be running at a loss?
That's one possibility or:

1. This poll sample is not a good representation of the average casino player. Persons who read forums tend to be more knowledgeable than the typical player, and are more likely to win (with bonuses, etc.)

2. People who have a net win are more likely to open the poll and vote in the thread than people who have a net loss.

3. Some people didn't vote and/or remember accurately.

4. Random variance due to a small sample size.

5. The poll is a secret conspiracy to get people to play more often. When everyone is sleeping, the casinos change the poll results. People see that others are winning and are encouraged to play.

6. The poll is too complicated. People just check the first box that they see.

7. People are voting according to their total winnings, not their net winnings

8. Rounding and currency conversion distortion. High-rollers who lost far beyond the limits of the poll pull the average down.

9. Lots of people don't know, and guess inaccurately

10. After reading "don't even think about voting for Broke even...you know that isn't true", newbies who broke even due to never having played for real money were scared and confused. They selected the top poll choice instead of broke even.

Also the Roswell bodys have been moved to a secret chamber under the Mummys Gold Casino.

I love our way with words! :notworthy

Since I just started gambling again in September it is easy for me to figure out what I lost. Right now I am hoovering around 5k. If Hype continues to be good to me maybe I can make that up before the end of the year!

Most of my losses are in RTG casinos!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Go figure.

3 weeks ago I would have cried at the number I was down.. but thanks to an awesome run I am up around 2k for the year. Working on losing some of that back with every waking non-working hour though.. LOL... probably a good thing I work 10-15 hours a day :eek2:

Figured it out, Excel made it a little easier.

Roughly $4000 in profit, off of roughly $10 grand in deposits for the year.

Very nice

I've decided to start a very detailed excel spreadsheet (finally) myself, so I know exactly where I stand at any given time.

After the beating I recieved last night playing blackjack, I've officially given that game up forever, and will only play poker from now on ;)

Figures

I have "lifetime" figures for the last 3 years, but not broken down annually. Overall down, but seem to have ended this year on a nice upswing.
I find it hard to believe even the most dedicated bonus whore is up 40K in only a year, and a year where the bonuses and terms are so tight.

Big payouts do distort the memory, and overall wins in a session are often less. I usually end up playing several casinos, and may find one or two accounts "on fire", but others are cold, and the overall win is the result of having found a hot account. I also tend to play more (and bigger bets) if I have had a big hit, this seems to work out quite often, but it takes only a slight cooling of the games to give it all back.
I am keeping a session record covering Xmas & New year while playing at Mum's place, I have had many big wins, but overall I am only slightly ahead (but with further withdrawals to come). I also have the opportunity to lose more in the coming New year promotions.

I MAY be able to make an approximation later as I have some old PC backup CD's, and may be able to look at a snapshot of my total play sometime near the start of 2006. 2005 was the big disaster though, as after I had a monster hit, I had a monster bad luck run while following the "bet big" method for too long AND all at the same very small group of "cold" casino accounts.

$40,000 is quite possible.

The expected value of the quality monthly bonuses was in the neighborhood of $800 this year (more for non US currencies).

The Grand Prive casinos offered a weekly or 2x per week that was as much as $300 100% match for much of the year. Note that this was not consistently available. Other casinos have a regularly weekly bonus as well. I'll say an expected value of $200/week from such bonuses , which is likely a low estimate.

There were miscellaneous special promotions throughout the year, such as Mansion's $1000 riskless bet at the start of the football season and Christmas bonuses. I'll estimate an expected value of $5000 over the course of the year from such bonsues.

So far that is $800x12 + $200x52 + $5000 = $25,000

If a new player, played through all the signup bonuses as well, the expected value of the total would be in the neigborhood of $40,000. If euros or pounds were used, the expected value would be over $40,000. If a player also played poker and/or sportsbook bonuses, the expected value would be over $40,000. If a player was on the positive side of variance, the gain would be over $40,000

I kept detailed records in my log on this forum when I started out (I have not been keeping consistent records in recent months). It shows my progress from ~$3,000 to ~$35,000. I have had extremely good luck at some points, such as winning with 12 out of 13 Grand Prive bonuses in a period of 2 weeks during October. However, I've also lost thousands due to foolish errors, ignored offers, playing without bonuses, etc. I lost even more due to missed offers related to residing in the United States and not starting until the year was almost half over.

I misclicked on lost 5000-10000, so I slightly biased the results. In fact I made around $9000 from online casinos last year, and around $3000 from online poker. 60% percent came from EV, 40% luck. I could have made more (maybe $3000) from EV, but sometimes I was not disciplined enough, nevertheless I was usually lucky in -EV situations overall.

At least 3 times during last year I was very desperate because of my far-below-expectations results, and my good faith in online casinos was seriously damaged, and I considered quitting online gambling for good. But the last three months of 2006 were amazing, and I found myself focusing rather on casinos than on poker, especially after the U.S changes.

The greatest challenge in 2007 will be balancing between my girlfriend and gaming as we both have a fulltime job, and I have limited time for gambling, but this is not a real question of course. :) She hasn't really understood all aspects of +EV online gambling yet, but I hope positive changes after buying a new kitchen cupboard in a few weeks. :)
