Thumbs down Latest casino rewards newsletter

I just got a casino rewards newsletter. I used to have an account at Blackjack Ballroom, when I was trying out several casinos with Gonegambling back in the good old days. I wish I had thought to cut and paste it here. It was disgusting. Story about someone winning about $290,000 who really needed it to help a 95 year old mother and some other family problems, etc.
Their point was to keep trying to win and your time will come. I thought it was a terrible newsletter article. To me, gambling is with disposable income only.

    Tales From The Floor

I have always wanted to gamble, although was worried if I won, I wouldn't know how to receive the winnings. Today was the big one, and great fortune was on my side.

I gamble a lot on Virtual City as it is so friendly.

I have won fairly small amounts previously, your bonuses are great too although I knew soon I'd hit the big one. Then last Saturday, 14/10, I felt something in my heart telling me I'd hit the jackpot. I played on a few slots and had $39 left. Then I tried Major Millions and on my third spin I hit the big one -- $291,000.

When my husband woke up and saw the amount he did not believe it was real.

I told him it was and he did not believe me. He also likes the casino, although not as much as me.

We did not know how to receive the cheque, and he still did not believe me it was for real. We wrote emails and quickly received a reply with procedures to take.

To all the people out there, a message: “Play, gamble, and eventually it will come. Everyone has his day and this is ours, at the best and most needed time for us”.

I have a sick son, and I can now help him. My mother is 95 and needs someone to look after her and I can help her too.

My daughter lives in Florida and I now have funds to go visit her when she gives birth to my granddaughter.

In short, now life will be great.

Before this, everything seemed without light, I have now proved to my husband it all works out in the end.

I'd like to praise god for directing me in the right direction to go to the game and spin. And everyone has their time.

Thanks to Virtual CityCasino for the jackpot and your efficient ways of transferring the winnings to the players.

I will keep playing with you - much better than Vegas. It's cheaper and much more comfortable.

    Anonymous Player
Play, gamble, and eventually it will come.

All of these "gambling success" stories have the same pattern: the wife was gambling online in the middle of the night, she won something big, and then went to wake her husband up to show him and/or have him confirm that she actually won.

I think this is the third story like this in the recent couple of months, and they don't all come from CR if I remember correctly. Perhaps it is Microgaming who is fabricating these stories. Kind of like their slots games - just take something that was created a long time ago and repackage it as something new.

The only thing that might wake my missus up would be me, as quietly as possible, packing the bags for Vegas

    Stories

As with all these, they are sent in by players in the hope of winning a bonus for any that are published. CR does not seem to offer such a reward, but every newsletter contains an invitation to send the stories in. Players keen to win are probably just working to a formula - I cannot see how these tales can be verified, they are published as is. Authors are identified by their first name and initial (surname) if at all, maybe just a location.
It is even possible that casinos keep good ones back in case they have a dull month, or need to drum up trade.

"Everyone has a big win eventually" - well, this is true, and can be proved mathematically. I believe such a proof was done ages ago, I believe it featured Primates, Typewriters, and a well known English Playwright of old

Of more interest to the dedicated whore is the current promotion. Each day, $500 goes to the player who plays the longest on any progressive. The only criteria is that one spin per minute is necessary in order to be considered to be playing. Clearly, one spin for every minute of the day guarantees a win, this requires considerable dedication, and lots of caffeine, but is pretty +EV unless too many players tie for first place.
If I had 2 computers (in the same place) I would be having a go at this myself. I would use my Windows 98 PC, and would thus not be requiring any caffeine!

Spot on. This newsletter is a true lack of judgement on CR's part. Sure we can use our winnings to pay the doctor bills and sustenance for our elderly parents, but it should never ever been in the scope of financial support.

It's perfectly acceptable for a casino to publish accounts of people winning big prizes on slot machines, but it's completely irresponsible to tug on the heart-strings with stories like the one you posted.

I wish the geniuses running casinos like this could be taught not to do this type of promotion. It must be a contributing factor to the right-wing U.S. anti-gambling types.

What I want to know is if they tried to pay the jackpot in installments of $4k a week again?! And I agree, stories like this shouldn't be used - CR should know better.
