    AusVegas VP paytables

i was just looking at the AusVegas paytable for Deuces Wild.

when you click on "help" they claim this game pays 98.44%.

    paytable:

    Four Deuces 200
Royal Flush 25 (that's correct "25"...no distinction for "wild royal")
    5 of a Kind 15
    Straight Flush 9
    4 of a Kind 5
    Full House 3
    Flush 2
    Straight 2
    3 of a Kind 1

This sure doesn't look like 98.44% to me, but there is no similar table on WizardofOdds.

Wierd. I tried the video poker analyzer at wizardofodds
(Video Poker Calculator - The Wizard of Odds)
And it shows the payout is 99.1%.

    So where is the error?
    1) I did not use the VP analyzer correct
    2) The VP analyzer can not analyze this wierd game correct(doubt it)
    3) AusVegas got it wrong. (But the paytable is better though, so they are excused)

However I find a VP game with no RF (or similar high pay win) extremly boring.

Here is the result from the VP analyzer:

    Hand PAY Probability Return
    Royal Flush 25 0.00002 0.00049
    Four Deuces 200 0.00020 0.04082
    Wild Royal Flush 25 0.00175 0.04365
    Five of a Kind 15 0.00321 0.04811
    Straight Flush 9 0.00417 0.03753
    Four of a Kind 5 0.06512 0.32559
    Full House 3 0.02127 0.06382
    Flush 2 0.01652 0.03304
    Straight 2 0.05619 0.11238
    Three of a Kind 1 0.28558 0.28558
    nothing 0 0.54597 0.00000
    Total: 0.99101

    Return: 99.1006%
    Variance: 11.7401

it's an unusual paytable for sure so I went ahead and did the math:

i arrived at 98.5% so their numbers are correct

my apologies to ausvegas. and props to AusVegas for being the only online site of which i'm aware that publishes the payout % for each individual game including their slots.

How did you some to that?
I have WinPoker at home so I can test it later, but I am at work now
I do trust the VP analyzer applet though.

i used one of Windows finest features: a program named "calculator"

i just did it the same way as the wizard tables (multiply payoffs times the probabilies and then add up those results.....i got .985992)

Aaahh! Yes, but what you get that way is just a lower bound of the payout%.

You will get excactly that payout if you play optimal strategy for the game with that paytable , but you instead play that strategy at this game with another paytable.

But a different paytable can give a different optimal strategy and this is the case here.

In some dueces wild games sometimes holding only QJ suited is correct,
but in this AusVegas game I suspect you are better of discarding everything.
So there are differences, and obvious some huge ones since payout% differs 0.5%.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

i'm certainly not an odds expert, but i'm pretty sure i used the same method as the wizard in determining the H/A.

they do have auto-hold at aus-vegas so I would assume that is optimal strategy for their game. their auto hold ignores 3 to a natural royal so it does seem to be optimal for their paytable

i couldn't find the HA anywhere for the "Perfect Pairs" sidebet on their blackjack if anyone knows that?

I do not really think this is correct. The probabilities for ending up with the paying hands are wrong because they depend on the optimal strategy which is not the same.

I am sure Grandmaster knows the answer to this and can settle our little friendly dispute.

But I do have the odds against me since AusVegas then also would have made a mistake.

    Same results on WinPoker. 99.1%

But what the heck, how can you not pay right on a natural royal flush? That's got to be the screwiest thing I've ever seen. Imagine hitting a natural royal and being paid 25 coins. What the heck are they thinking? That's crazy.
