The Nevada legislators (well, some of them!) got pretty close to legalising online gambling a couple years back but then put everything on hold after the DoJ made argumentative noises. There are news reports on it in Casinomeister News archives I believe.

Edited to add that Nevada legalised the use of hand held betting appliances earlier this year but only within already licensed gambling properties (the big boys want to access those folks lying around the pool or relaxing in their rooms, too!)

In my opinion, Utah would copy the current federal government in its enforcement of this law.

Southern Utah is beautiful, it is well worth visiting.

At least the Mormons are consistent, they ban gambling completely with no exception, they don't have any of this "gambling is immoral, so we will ban it, but allow a state lottery, church bingo, racetrack betting and casinos run by the governor's friends".

What's more, there is also bingo and sweepstakes on the buses, which sounds very illegal.

I do not know if it is still done this way but I had taken one of these buses once, a long time ago, and when they would hold the sweepstakes, they would not announce a winner until they had crossed the border.

p.s. I really appreciate everybody who participated in this discussion. It has been an eye opener towards all the weird laws in certain states.

I used to live in Utah... and my family are all Latter-Day Saints (Mormons).

The only reason I would not go to Utah is because of what I do for a living... I might just end up in one of those cheep accommodations (jail)... seems like my humor just does not play well with some people...

Side note: Funny that in a country that proclaims how FREE it is and wants to spread that freedom that marrying more than one person is against the law...
In a truly FREE country why would the government care how many people you married???
