Passport ID for registration

I've noticed some MG casinos (Grand Monaco for one) request your passport number when registering. I don't have a passport so asked live chat what to do. He said that I should put Social Security Number (Social Insurance Number in Canada) as they need to verify the person.

I declined to do that.

I once wrote "no passport" instead of a number and the registration went through. However since I didn't cash out, I don't know what would have happened if I did.

Anyone else have this problem?

I don't see how they can check the Passport number if you gave it to them.

they can't just phone up the passport office and ask for the name of the person that a number belongs to so seems irrelevant to me.

I believe that this information is optional. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Yup, it is optional at most Microgaming casinos,
but there is a few, where it is required-field.

I refused to write my SSN or Passport number.

Thanks for your replies.

Sodax is correct. Most are optional but a few (the new Grand Monaco is one) where it is necessary. The registration still goes through even if a write "no passport" in the blank but I am never sure if it will cause problems in cashing out. In my mind I was being honest and stating a fact but doubt that they would read it that way. The number of numbers/letters probably wouldn't pan out and trigger a red flag!

I can't remember the other one that required it, but I did email them and was told it shouldn't make any difference writing "no passport". SSN or SIN wasn't requested by them, but I didn't play there.
