I would agree in both cases. Keep in mind though that the minimum bet is also a factor. I have seen $5 minimum with $250 maximum as well as $1 minimum and $500 maximum. The 1 and 500 has a better spread but will be harder to negotiate for.

Yea, they could definately lose their ass with a 1-500 spread on any game. This would also raise a flag for them....why have a high limit if you're going to play $1 hands at times? Smart by the player, but definately bad for the casino.

I can't remember which casino it was, but I found a $5-300 spread on BJ and had a field day with it

Now that I think about it, care to name the casino in question that has a $1-500 spread??? Was that just Pontoon or BJ also?

Why is the spread important? Does the game switch to player advantage at some points?

    Cool Common Spreads

Neither, it's Caribbean 21 and the 1-500 spread is something I attained after (as you suggested in an earlier post) establishing myself as a higher limit player thru regular deposits, tabletime, withdrawals and communication with mgmt. The limit's in the beginning were 1-5 like most others that even carry the game and the other "21" games were set for 1-250.

There was a time when the most common starting limits for Caribbean 21 were 1, 2, 5 minimums and 200-500 maximums. Most at that time had the 500 max. The limits were usually the same for all "21" games.

    Cool Game Spread

No, the game never switches to player advantage. The reason the spread is important (to me anyway) is balance longevity. For a $500 deposit you can play 500 hands with a $1 minimum and have the option to bet up to the table maximum (say $500) at any time or loose 500 hands before you run out of money. For the same $500 deposit and a table minimum of $5 you would get only 100 hands. Assuming the same $500 max that would be 100 shots at betting up to $500. Since there are any number of combinations for min and max the spread can be helpful when deciding where to deposit whatever amount you intend to deposit.

Thanks Pir8. My thinking was along the same line and I'm glad to see others share the same views on it.

I'm definately humble enough to sit there and play $5 at a B&M casino, then jump up to $100-500. I've had dealers comment "You're playing $100 at a $5 table?" and seem flabbergasted. I just have to roll my eyes and snicker But, you definately have to sit at the table for awhile and make sure people are playing like they actually have a clue before you start pushing the bets.
