Actually it is proper grammar. The apostrophe replaces the "Th" in "Them" reading "Let 'em ride"

An error in grammar would be "Let they ride" or "Let 'em rides"

I stand corrected.

I meant how "formal" SI was rather than their grammar. " 'Em" being an informal contraction of "them".
