    Bellagio Casino Robbed!!

"Police: Bellagio bandit leaves with $1.5 million in gambling chips"

    per: http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2010...bbery-bellagio

Should have gone for the cash. Not much an unknown (or anybody) per se can do with any of the $1.5 million in Bellagio chips. Wonder if any were RFID's????

Sure is getting a lot of press though. (The Ocean's Triology Effect that actually is perfect and more appropriate for one of those "Stupid Criminals" television programs).

Just read about it on AOL and was wondering just how in the world you would cash in that many chips. Didn't make alot of sense to me. Guess he could cash in one at time.

Are chips marked somehow? (Serious, not trying to be funny. I've never played any casino games in Vegas or AC which required the use of chips.)

If they aren't, then it would be possible to go into the Bellagio, play a few games and cash out maybe a few hundred/thousand dollars at a time?

Okay, never mind, I found the answer to my question. Sorry for the momentary mental lapse.

The thief stole basically $1.5 million of Monopoly money.

Splitting hairs but Vegas is different as in much more difficult than say NOLA or Tunica or whereever when trying to cash bigger (and sometimes also smaller i.e. $100.00) denominations of chips. And that is assuming these chips were not RFID chips among many other assumptions, all of which are not in favor of the thief.

I'm guessing the bulk of the $1.5mill will be made up of the $25,000 chips, and not many of those leave the pit without a boss keeping an eye on where they go, so whoever walks up to a cage to cash one randomly will have some questions to answer.

Stupid, should have taken the smaller chips and not been so greedy!

just my opinion, but I was thinking his plan would be to sell the chips to others at a reduced cost (ala counterfeiters) and let the buyers take the risk of actually going into the casino and using them. Obviously, the larger the denomination of chips, the harder it will be for him to do anything with them, but a small network of people could easily return to the Bellagio individually w/in a day or so of the robbery and eliminate the opportunity for the casino to replace all of their chips with a new variation.

No need to steal $1.5m worth of chips to counterfeit them. All the person needs to do is gather individual denominations of the chips and try to counterfeit them.

Casino's are prepared for such an instance. A 'Reserve Float' will be brought into circulation immediately. Im certain that gaming regulations entail having this.
