Post Atlantic City Casino Brings Back...

Atlantic City casino brings back real-coin slot machines

By Wayne Parry, Associated Press Writer

ATLANTIC CITY — It used to be the signature sound of gambling: the clacking of coins spilling into metal trays on slot machines. But newer electronic machines that spit paper vouchers or credit winnings to cards now emit only canned noise.
Now Atlantic City's oldest casino is bringing back the real clang amid indications that some gamblers miss the way things used to be....

I never did like those machines. I mean the coins make your hands dirty, you have to walk around with a cup all the time and the cup would be heavy. I take the paper over the coins anytime..
Give a fool his space....don't want to get caught up in their drama

    slots

I'm ith you Veg. Those huge cups full of coins are for the birds, not to mention waiting for an attendant to refill you machine or whatever.

I was so mad when they changed to the voucher system. But I came to love the ease of cashing out and not waiting for a hopper fill.

In the old days you would cringe when you hit the cashout button and wait with your fingers crossed that you would get all your coins! Espescially if you had to catch your bus.

That is the only thing I didn't like about machines spitting out coins. I love the sound. I love getting my hands dirty. I love the feel of a big cup filled with quarters or dollars and trying to remember "how much is a bucket of dollar coins worth?" Or watching the cashier person pour the coins into the counter and seeing it all add up.

But maybe thats because I'm in my forties and all that brings back wonderful memories of gambling with my family, my ex and my friends.

I welcome some of these coin filled machines. I just wish they would bring back some of the slot machines that are no longer on the floor. I know they have to make room for newer ones but that doesn't mean we didn't love the old ones.

You've about summed up how I feel. There was an air of excitement to the noise of the machines the minute you walked into the casino, which I now miss.

I do now like the paper system, but I'd like to see a return of some more traditional choices.

I too usually went by bus to B&M's, and one of my budget stretching techiniques was to feed quarters into the machine, letting the credits accumulate, then cashing out when the quarters were gone, and moving on to the next machine.

I hated the tokens though, used throughout Ontario, because they were so dirty, and I especially hated the nickle tokens. Quebec used coins instead, (nickle machines took quarters) and Canadians have both $1 and $2 coins. Often hopped on the bus with a bucket of change instead of lining up for the cashier.

It's nice to have choices, and I hope they re-introduce some of the machines using coins or tokens.

If 1/3-1/2 of all paper currency has traces of cocaine (not sure if this is still true, but probably is), so you can imagine what the coins have....not to mention the fact that in this day and age you can't be too careful, and possibly catching some sort of bacterial disease from them....

Sure, the diseases were around way back when they did away with these coin slots, but they weren't as widespread as they are now.

Operators: If you don't know what Transparency means, then here you go.....now how about practicing it?

Transparency, as used in the humanities and in a social context more generally, implies openness, communication, and accountability. It is a metaphorical extension of the meaning a "transparent" object is one that can be seen through. ...

Oh my, that's why they left all those helpful little tubs of alcohol wipes freely available. Well known that one of the best ways to pass colds and flus is from hand to hand.

Now we just have germy hands on the MAX BET button without the benefit of wetknaps.
