Two Charged In Casino Cheating Probe

An investigation by state police into allegations of cheating by some craps dealers and patrons at Foxwoods Resort Casino has led to two arrests on larceny and conspiracy charges and 13 warrants waiting to be served.
State police have announced the arrests of Richard S. Taylor, 42, of 3447 Foxhunt St. in Memphis, Tenn., and Mattie E. Tarlton, 42, of 57 Berkley Ave. in New London. Both are charged with first-degree larceny, cheating during gambling and conspiracy.
The scheme involved the recruiting of several casino employees to accept late bets on the table game of craps, and the dealers later received payments at an off-site location for their involvement in the scam, state police spokesman Lt. J. Paul Vance said.
Vance said that in December 2007, the state police casino unit received a complaint from the Mashantucket Pequot Inspector General's Office about possible cheating involving the game of craps at Foxwoods. The complaint alleged that craps dealers and patrons were involved, Vance said.
The investigation widened and eventually involved Foxwoods in Mashantucket and the Mohegan Sun casino in the Uncasville section of Montville. State police detectives interviewed about 20 employees of the Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun casinos, Vance said. Superior Court in New London issued 15 warrants as a result of the probe.
State police detectives were assisted in the investigation by the surveillance departments at both casinos, the Mashantucket Pequot inspector general and the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Commission.
State police booked Tarlton and Taylor and released them on bail, with court appearances pending in Superior Court in New London.

The investigation is continuing.

UNCASVILLE, Conn.—State police arrested four people at the Mohegan Sun casino after they were caught with a card counting device.
State police say the New York residents were using the device at a baccarat table Saturday to determine the order or cards in the deck before they were dealt.

All four were charged with cheating while lawfully gambling, possession of a cheating device, first-degree larceny and first-degree criminal trespass.

Fifty-year-old Yuan Chen, 45-year-old Dong Zhong, 41-year-old Jim Tong, and 37-year-old Yu Feng were each being held on $10,000 bond and were scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Norwich Superior Court.
