Online Casino Clean Indoor Air Act OCCIAA saves lives, money

New laws sometimes bring about culture changes, but rarely does it happen as quickly as with the Online Casino Clean Indoor Air Act.

The phasing-in of the law began taking effect two days ago when smoking in most home latrines was banned. The law will go the rest of the distance in two more days (Oct. 15, 2007) when smoking is banned in all homes where online gambling devices are located.

A number of gamblers have bitten the bullet and snuffed out smokes on their premises in advance of being required to do so.

But quite a few others worry that when the time comes, they'll lose many bonus runs as the auto-play ban has already gone into effect, and no-one wants to risk losing their bankroll just to step outside and have a smoke.
Unless gamblers convert to drinking and gambling at land based casinos, however, we suspect they'll do what smokers in other places have been doing for several years now: Take it to the streets.

To help them out, a few casino owners are thinking about adding heated patios to their prize lists in the pick-'em bonus round, or simply assure they will pay any fines if players are caught smoking online for the duration of that gambling session. No smoking waivers will be allowed to carry over into future sessions.

The ban serves several purposes, the most important of which is to discourage smoking. That has health benefits for smokers and for the nonsmokers who are playing at the same online casinos.

Illinois lawmakers applauded the move, but said they plan to take it one step further; "If a person even appears to be smoking online, we will come into their home and arrest them." But others have said that would make no sense, claiming a lottery arrest system would serve the state better. "Why don't we just make some lottery numbers real losers', asked Brian Donovan of Champaigne, "if someone draws that number, instead of a Powerball, we'll give them a ball and chain. It will cut down on our investigative and enforcement costs considerably."

A smoker and Gambler, who spoke on condition of anomymity, summed it up, "Smoke 'em if you got 'm."

Is that why Bally's sends me like several offers every week as well as a monthly free-room schedule?

I only went there once and I only spent $300. I signed up for the rewards thing before playing, but ever since then my mailbox has been bombarded with postcards every week.

They sure didn't seem to be hurting for business in January... but I think that was before the PA slots thing opened up.

Probably SlotW.....The ban of smoking started April 1st and the casinos in PA opened late January, so yes, they need business from what I saw

I now have 2 consecutive nights in a row EVERY week until Spring! My friend has that also, we could literally spend almost a week free every week until spring

If I had the money, I would be down there every week. I just love it.

Looks like AC is hurting...

October casino revenues down again in AC
By WAYNE PARRY | Associated Press Writer
4:54 PM EST, November 9, 2007

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. - The leaves are falling, and so are revenues at Atlantic City's 11 casinos, which continue to see their profitable slots customers flee to Pennsylvania and New York.

The gambling halls took in $384.4 million in October, a 7.5 percent decline from the October 2006.

Slots revenues were $270.3 million, a decrease of 12.6 percent over a year ago. It matched the worst month of the year so far for slots here, along with September, which was also down 12.6 percent.

Revenue from table games was $114.1 million, an increase of 7.3 percent over a year ago.

Since the first slots parlor opened in the Philadelphia area last December, customers who once had no closer alternative than Atlantic City began deserting this resort for slot machines closer to home.

That trend has held throughout the year, and 2007 is certain to ....

Thanks for the info!

Locally in the Detroit area, the Windsor Casino has gone smoke free and for me this makes it more than worth it to drive through the tunnel and go there, even with all the border delays in place. Plus it is just simply the best of our four local casinos.

Our other three casinos offer some smoke free areas at Greektown, the MGM Detroit, and Motor City Casino has a smoke free poker room (thank you!)

At one time, I tried to keep an up to date list of smoking and non-smoking casinos inside the USA. I found it to be an impossible task (with my limited man power). Some casinos seemed to be changing their smoking policies on an almost daily basis.

I don't mind people smoking in a casino, as long as the casino has the air conditioner system set to remove the smoke from the room as soon as possible.

I quit smoking about five years ago, before that I smoked 2 to 4 packs a day for over 30 years.

This is why the online casinos scare the land based casinos so much... The closer the game is to your home the more likely you are to play, and if the game is actually in your home...
