Google patent application April 2007

I do not know how many of you are aware of the Google patent application on the 26th of April patent application #20070094255, I wrote my own summary about it here

I think this is related to a topic that was raised by Matt a few months ago about paid backlinks. In their attempt to combat paid links they are going to be looking at this new patent to bring a solution to detecting paid backlinks.

I would say that the one way of detecting paid backlinks is to look for links that appear, dissappear or change on existing pages over a period of time. This patent clearly aims at this dead giveaway.

Does this mean the end of linktrading or buying? IMO no it does not, all it does is change the rules a little. We now need to be careful who we link to even more, ensure that link building is done even more intense and regularly with people who is interested in long term link trading.
