Exclamation Thanking - the right way and wrong way to do it revisited

    Hi all,

It seems yet again, I need to address the issue of the the giving "Thanks" button. There is a right way to do it, and a wrong way.

We have this enabled on the board to you can show appreciation to your fellow members when they make good, informative, helpful posts. You "thank" them.
    http://www.casinomeister.com/forums/thanks.php

This is the right way to do it. Now I know many members use this as an "I Agree" button, well that's fine since I and the mods do it too. But please bear in mind what you are agreeing with. If the person is making a statement that you agree with, well by all means give him/her a cyber "high-five" with the "Thanks" button.

But if a person is ragging on another member, I would suggest NOT "high fiving" this member because this is "mobbing" and is totally uncool.

Imagine being in a room with the members of the forum. Someone makes a comment directed at you stating "You have no idea what you're talking about. You're a moron - get a life." and people start high-fiving this member - how would you feel?

This is not something you'd do in person; please don't do it in the forum.

In essence, use some discretion when thanking your fellow members. Do not become "uncool."

For those of you who use this "inappropriately", your thanking privileges may be disabled. I also will take the liberty of removing those that I feel are mob-like. Please be cool.

    Thanks!

And as an endnote, the "Nominate a post/thread" button is the "thanks" button on steroids. The rules for this also apply but even more so.

    Exclamation Admin Warning

I'm bumping this back up since a number of members are still using the "thanks" button inappropriately. If this continues, and the mods and I are forced to become Nannies, I'll just turn the damn thing off.

Please remember that the Thanks button is primarily designed to encourage helpful and thoughtful posts - it's not to "high five" members ragging on one another. Thank you for your obedience.

How about a "high five" button then

It would allow easy identification of those members supporting the ragging on others. Also, it would be used as an "I agree", which is not always the same as a thanks for a useful post.

Rather than turn it off for all, maybe a system where members who misbehave have their ability to RECEIVE thanks suspended for a period of time will help calm things down.
