UK casinos/industry have changed since i last checked up on them

I recently visited 3 casinos after being absent from the scene for more than a year. I should say one of the main reasons is the kind of people that usually visit those places.

I noticed that now there is a new open door policy.(when did they introduce this?) You just walk in like vegas. No more registrations.

The only "vegas like" casino london has is the "casino at the empire" in leicester square. Having said that i think they could have done a heck of a better job. In my eyes the gaming floor lacks the buzz necessary to create an entertaining atmosphere and their saturday only 5min show is hardly amazing. Oh sure....they got some nice girls going around asking you if you want to be massaged for a fee at your discretion but frankly I found this a drop in the ocean. Something is missing from the floors. Is it the depressed and drunk that ruin the atmospere or what is it?
Am afraid the open door policy drives in many $uckers. I can't believe how many people I saw hitting on 14 against dealers 6. Even if BJ was stuck with 1% in favour of the player am sure the casino would still have been on top by a lot! So many young ladies who have no idea of gambling go and throw their money away... I feel sorry for them but I dare not to say anything to them while they play.

Apparently they have an open door policy too?

I find this very hard to believe. Anyone knows any more as I would like to check them out since shortly ago you needed �1000 just to become a member there

Futher more Gala in picadilly,Ladbrokes casino in paddigton and the high class Fifty on St. James street all went bust. What's happening there? Can a casino be a loss making business? whales cleaned them up?

I wonder if the culprit could be the smoking ban.

Of course, a casino can lose money, see for example http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2009...nization-costs . In order for the casino to be profitable, the gross gambling revenue has to cover the costs, such as rent, interest on loans, salaries and wages, utility bills, maintenance and repairs, taxes. You may have noticed that there is an economic crisis, for the past two years or so, gross gambling revenue in Nevada decreased at an annual rate of more than 10%, while casino were used to increases of similar magnitude. Many of the cost are fixed or at least do not decrease proportionally with reduced revenue.
