Poker can be very competitive and guys always seem to flock towards any sort of competition. On top of that guys like to think they make all the decisions so they want to control the outcome. I think poker will always have more males than females but the girls are catching up fast.
Personally I think girls have the potential to make some of the better live professional poker players. Girls on average are better at reading another person's body language and emotions. There are some sharp female players out there who can simply feed off of this skill alone to come out on top. On top of that guys (on average) don't tend to respect female poker players and play overly aggressive which is yet another way to capitalize on males. It has been known for a while that having a feminine username or avatar for online poker can be profitable playing against guys. Just play a tight game and bust other players for not respecting you. I guess guys who play with female nicknames and avatars would be cross-dressers? hmmm
