Launched in late 2006, the website has just breached the 10 000 concurrent user barrier

2008 is off to a running start for online poker website PKR.com, which has achieved the significant 10 000 simultaneous players level after only 18 months of operations. The 10 000 user barrier was breached on the evening of Sunday January 6 according to independent statistics.

PKR, which boasts innovative and quality 3D graphics that include 'emote control' on its proprietary software has invested heavily in marketing, and this paid off in 2007 despite a turbulent year for the Internet poker sector.

"A year of high-profile marketing, together with the launch of a national TV advertising campaign, has left PKR as the most talked about poker room in the world," said Simon Prodger, PKR marketing director this week. And it doesn't stop there; he revealed that a major television campaign was unveiled December 22 and will be aired on both terrestrial and cable channels such as Channel 4, Five, E4, Setanta, MTV, Dave and Film 4.

The company was founded by Jez San, OBE, the first person to be awarded an OBE for services to the computer games industry, and one of the UK’s best known technology entrepreneurs who started his first company at age 16. It has put together some interesting reciprocal marketing partnerships, announcing an exclusive agreement with IGA Worldwide to place in-game ads across PKR.com’s play money tables last year. The ads will reach tens of thousands of players each day from PKR.com’s burgeoning customer base.

The company website is one of only a few in the industry that fully details the identity and background of its management team.
