Shit like this just makes my blood boil. The government of this beloved country of ours just gets everything ass backwards, don't they?

I did not know Drew had a video blog or whatever this is called. I will keep up with it now. He for one seems a voice of reason to me.

Thanks for posting this link Catrina.

crap like this just pisses me offmy hubby is a V.F.W member and at our post they did come in several years ago and had all the poker machines pulled out. i just think this is wrong with all the great works the V.F.W does for vets. the money that the police took from the poker machines was to be used for homeless vets at christmas. im outraged as an american!!

Well at least now we know why the "raid" occurred, they wanted film footage for a reality TV show...

    The government has gone insane...

The raid occurred around 7:40 p.m. I was in the kitchen area which was just inside the front door when suddenly there was loud banging from the door. Within seconds, the room was full of Dallas SWAT officers yelling for everyone to put their hands in the air. Behind the Dallas SWAT team came many more law enforcement officers and several camera crews for the A&E reality show, Dallas SWAT. The camera crew’s chests were clearly marked as “A&E Film Crew.”

Bear in mind that, prior to police entering, the place was virtually quiet. There was the sound of poker chips in the air, but not much else. The players were essentially professionals and working stiffs having fun…there were doctors, lawyers, accountants, and other professionals. There was hardly anything “dangerous” about the place at all. In fact, the cops found no weapons in the facility or on anyone there. The show of force and weaponry brought by the cops was simply outrageous and unjustified, given the circumstances, but, then again, are they enforcing the law or making a TV show?

I agree... totally insane... There's a mention of the April VFW raid a little further along in the article.

Police go after poker games in which house takes cut
Posted on Mon, Dec. 10, 2007
    By ANNA M. TINSLEY
    Star-Telegram Staff Writer
Dan Michalski likes nothing more than to sit at a table and play Texas hold 'em.

But it's been harder for the North Texas man to find a good game lately, because Dallas police keep raiding everything from VFW halls to underground poker games, ticketing players, arresting operators and confiscating everything from the chips to the tables.

Players fear that the crackdown on poker won't stop at city borders, but spread throughout the state as long as Texas outlaws the games where the house gets a percentage of the pot.

"It's a shame," said Michalski, a poker blogger, player and editor of pokerati.com. "It's not like the people running these rooms are getting rich. A lot of people in good rooms are just trying to provide a service. What's wrong with them being able to pay the rent, buy food, with the money?

"This is frustrating, to say the least," he said. "These laws themselves are questionable."

Police say they are following the law, which....

The Cat: Oh, you can't help that. We're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad.
