Mulitple accounts for the same IP
One of the smaller sites I used to play at allowed mulitple accounts from the same IP Addy to play in tournaments. I found this out from a fellow player in non poker room chat.
I tried it to see if it worked. I had a friend come over and, using a second computer, logged into the site, created an account, confirmed it. The two computers are networked and share a cable connection with an assigned IP addy. Both showed up with the same IP addy when I checked.
Well it worked! We both entered a freeroll tourney, and were seated and able to play. We could play both names from separate computers and be on the site in the same game at the same time. We could even be seated at the same table!
So I called customer support and asked about this. I was told that it could only happen in freeroll tournaments. They knew about it and "it was on the list". They were working on it, and would have the IP addy check in place within a few weeks for the freerolls.
True enough, the fix was in place in about a month.
After they implemented the IP addy check on tournaments, the average player head count in the big daily freeroll on the site dropped by about 60%.
I wonder how many times I was knocked out of tournies on that site by players using multiple accounts? There was a lot of suspicious play and I guess I found out why.
Haven't played there since. Just drew out my balance and uninstalled the program. Even though they cleaned up their act, I still had a bad taste from that experience.
Fool me once..........
